📌Did you know?
Sometimes what looks like behaviour challenges may actually be linked to hearing difficulties. If a child cannot clearly hear what is being said, they may seem distracted, unresponsive, or struggle to follow instructions. Hearing loss can affect communication, learning, and social interaction if it is not identified early.
Understanding the difference between behavioural concerns and possible hearing issues is an important first step in supporting a child’s development. Early assessment can help determine whether hearing, auditory processing, or another factor may be affecting their ability to listen and respond.

Vestibular migraine does not always include head pain 🧠
That is one reason it is often misunderstood.

Migraine is a neurological condition that can affect balance, motion, and sensory processing. For some people, dizziness or visual symptoms are the main features, even without headache.

The absence of head pain does not make vestibular migraine less real or less serious.

Is your child struggling to keep up in conversations or at school? Sometimes what looks like inattention or behaviour challenges could be linked to hearing or sound processing difficulties.
👉🏾Look out for these signs:
📌Delayed or unclear speech
📌Slower language development
📌Difficulty following instructions
📌Frequently mishearing similar sounding words
📌Seeming to “hear” but not fully understand
Hearing and listening are closely connected. When a child does not hear clearly, it can affect how they process sound. That is why the first step is always a professional hearing test to rule out hearing loss before assessing auditory processing.
Early identification can make the difference between thriving and just coping.
If you are concerned, our NB Hearing & Balance audiologists in Sea Point, Durbanville, Hout Bay, Wynberg and Noordhoek are here to help.
