Incoming light causes a chemical reaction on the retina to permit sight. There are two types of light sensitive cells in the retina, one active in bright light, and another active in dim light.

The delay in this chemical process is responsible for the lag in your vision when moving from bright light into darkness, and vice versa.

Your eyes need time to adapt to the changes in brightness.

A persons’ vision can be improved to reduce spectacle dependence, even if they had previous cataract surgery.

If needed, the focus of the eyes can be accurately improved with a laser procedure. Alternatively, if a person requires complete spectacle independence, a multifocal ad-on lens can be implanted over the existing lens.

The multifocal lens is specifically manufactured to fit over the pre-existing lens.
