With heavy hearts, we share the tragic news of the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Cynthia Chirubvu, who left us yesterday.

Cynthia was an integral part of the Sunset Pharmacy family and played a vital role in its management and success. She was always eager to work, always willing to help, and she consistently went the extra mile. Not only for the people she knew, but even for complete strangers who walked through our doors.

She truly loved what she did, and that love was felt by everyone. Cynthia was admired and appreciated by so many for her kindness, humility, and beautiful spirit. A nicer, more genuine person would be difficult to find.

She will be deeply missed by all of us at Sunset Pharmacy and by the many lives she touched.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. 🤍

Rest in peace, dear Cynthia. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten. ❤️

🎉 Happy 61st Birthday, Sunset Pharmacy! 🎉 - read about our founder Mr. Ellis Henen 's incredible journey and heartwarming love story.

Sixty-one years ago today, a simple coffee chat between friends sparked an idea that would change lives. On March 10, 1964, Sunset Emergency Pharmacy opened its doors with a start-up capital of R800 and a first-night turnover of R5.29 (yes, you read that right!). From those humble beginnings to becoming the trusted, service-driven pharmacy we are today, it’s been an incredible journey.

In November 1964, Sunset Pharmacy became a day and night pharmacy and shortly thereafter moved into the newly built Sea Point Medical Centre. It was during this time, while opening the store for the new day’s business, that a 16-year-old girl walked by on her way to school. In a light-hearted moment, our founder, Mr. Ellis Henen, jokingly told her to come back when she was 20, and he'd marry her. Well, as fate would have it, she did come back, and they’ve been happily married for over 57 years now! ❤❤

Just like the journey of a marriage, Sunset Pharmacy has always been about more than just the basics—it’s about building deep, lasting relationships based on trust, care, and loyalty. Our customers are more than just people who walk through our doors—they’re family.

Sunset Pharmacy stands today because of the loyalty of our customers and the dedication of our incredible team. We’ve been together for 61 years, weathered every challenge, and celebrated every victory—just like a strong and lasting marriage.

Mental health is extremely important and often a neglected part of healthcare. Quite often, our dedicated health workers spend too much time taking care of others and unfortunately their own mental health isn't made a priority.
