Our understanding of what causes depression is evolving and so should our approach to treating it. Relational disconnect, hopelessness, trauma, we need to to talk about these experiences and destigmatize the body's response to prolonged exposure to them. We can't carry on medicating healthy responses to unhealthy circumstances.
A new shows thereβs no clear evidence that depression is caused by abnormally low levels of serotonin in the brain.

Are you unhappy at home or work? Are you okay with your past and how it's impacting your relationships and your success?
Do your emotions get the better of you at work or at home? Is your mood holding you back and bringing you down while you really feel like you could get more out of life? Symptoms like depression and anxiety have a purpose, calling you to action, letting you know there is something you need to heal from, something that needs to change. While going through this process you will feel yourself responding differently to situations that previously overwhelmed you or triggered you. Family members or colleagues who trigger your emotions will "get to you" less and you will be able to choose your responses rather than being ruled by moods or emotions.
Going through therapy should really make you feel the difference, talking won't always get you there, sometimes you need to check in with your body too. This is where body based therapy is different, and often more effective.

Who am I and what's my approach to Depression and Anxiety as symptoms of dis-ease?
My name is Andrew and I am a registered clinical psychologist specialized in treating depression and anxiety. I also focus relationships at home and at work. I believe that all these aspects often overlap and when you aren't living a fulfilling life at work and at home your body will let you know. The balance will be out and you will feel it.
Depression for example serves a purpose, it so often resonates with what we have lost, maybe just losing the way that our lives were supposed to be. Or, you have been de-pressing damaged relationships, the fact that your work is unfulfilling or a trauma that happened recently or in the distant past. Either way, your body is saying βEnough is enough!β. It has brought you to a standstill, and now, you are in a place where you need to face yourself, your fears, losses, hurts or disappointments.
To survive we get really good at distracting ourselves from these physical ques that something is wrong. We over work ourselves, we fixate over our appearance, we smoke, drink, take drugs, whatever it takes to not have to look in the mirror. That's where I come in. I hold up that mirror so that you can see the truth, of how you got to where you are and we untangle you from you past, so that you can step into your future.
I can guide you through a process of healing, working with you body and mind.
