Faircape Health is proud to share that Dr Nicci Snyders, Family Physician at Faircape Tokai, has successfully completed the Africa Fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) through the International Rehabilitation Forum.

This two-year fellowship equips physicians across Sub-Saharan Africa with advanced, multidisciplinary training in rehabilitation medicine. The programme focuses on strengthening care systems for persons living with disability and improving access to specialised rehabilitation services across the continent.

Through this training, Dr Snyders has expanded her expertise in areas including stroke recovery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, musculoskeletal medicine, and comprehensive rehabilitation care.

Her work reflects a deep commitment to supporting patients in restoring function, maintaining independence, and improving quality of life.

After being diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension shortly after the birth of her son, Rafeeqa Lamera’s life changed dramatically.

Pulmonary hypertension is a rare and serious condition that places strain on the heart and lungs, often causing severe shortness of breath, dizziness, and fatigue. For years, Rafeeqa struggled with symptoms and misdiagnoses before finally receiving the care she needed.

In November 2022, she underwent a double lung transplant through Groote Schuur Hospital’s Lung Transplant Programme, offering her a second chance at life.

Following complications during her ICU recovery, Rafeeqa was transferred to Faircape Health Tokai Rehabilitation, where our multidisciplinary team supported her rehabilitation journey. Through physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological support, and specialised medical care, Rafeeqa worked tirelessly to regain her strength and independence.

Her story is one of determination, resilience, and hope.

We’re incredibly proud of our new Faircape Health Somerset West healthcare, offering high quality finishes, a welcoming café, open spaces, an onsite pharmacy and fully equipped rehabilitation gyms.

Our gyms support physiotherapy, occupational therapy specific rehabilitation, functional rehabilitation and cognitive rehabilitation, all within purpose designed therapy spaces.

With state of the art equipment and experienced clinical teams, patients are supported to recover, rebuild and heal in a modern, well equipped environment.

Mr Weise arrived at Faircape Health Tokai Estate requiring significant assistance with everyday activities.

At first, he was unsure about the role of occupational therapy, but through a structured, patient-centred rehabilitation programme and the support of the therapy team, he made meaningful progress towards greater independence.

Every recovery journey is unique, and we are proud to support patients like Mr Weise in reaching their individual rehabilitation goals.
