Last week International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department of Science,Technology and Innovation SA SAWBP PhD Fellow, Prishanta Pillay attended the Viruses 2026- New Horizons in Virology conference, a three-day international conference held in Barcelona, Spain.

The conference, sponsored by MDPI and the journal Viruses aimed to bring together global experts to discuss cutting-edge research across the entire field of virology including human, animal and plant viruses.

Prishanta presented her research in a poster titled “Assessment of gammaherpesvirus infection dynamics and associated tumorigenesis in the context of Covid-19”. The poster abstract is now available online via MDPI Sciforum: https://sciforum.net/paper/view/29574.

Prishanta was also awarded 2nd place in the "Engage to Win" in-app challenge.

In another highlight, Prishanta was able to connect with fellow ICGEB researcher Pamela Martinez-Orellana from the Molecular Virology lab in Trieste, Italy.
