PMS has a way of amplifying everything. The mood shifts, the bloating, the heaviness, the cramps, the irritability. And when oestrogen starts dipping and becoming unpredictable in perimenopause, those same symptoms tend to feel sharper and more disruptive. There is a very real physiological reason for that. Progesterone drops quickly before your period, and with lower baseline oestrogen, your body feels that drop far more intensely.
Over the years I have found a simple herbal combination that consistently helps women feel more settled during that late luteal window. It supports the nervous system, eases inflammation, and assists the liver in handling hormone metabolism at a time when everything feels a little more sensitive.
Here is what each herb brings to the blend:
Lemon balm
Helps calm an overstimulated nervous system by supporting GABA. It is especially helpful for that restless, anxious tension many women feel in the days before bleeding.
Lavender
Because of its linalool content, lavender works on serotonin and GABA pathways. It helps with mood instability, tension headaches, and the wired but tired feeling that interferes with sleep.
Rosemary
A strong ally for the liver. It boosts glucuronidation and sulfation, the pathways responsible for clearing oestrogen efficiently. When these pathways run smoothly, PMS is usually far easier to manage. Rosemary also reduces prostaglandins that drive cramps and breast tenderness.
Sage
Offers gentle phytoestrogenic support when your own oestrogen is low or fluctuating. It also helps with temperature regulation, which is why it eases night sweats and sudden heat spikes.
Mint
Relaxes smooth muscle, which helps relieve uterine cramps and digestive discomfort. Also supports nausea relief, something many women experience just before their period.
Goji berry
Supports adrenal resilience and helps stabilise blood sugar. These two factors make a big difference to cravings, fatigue, and emotional intensity in the premenstrual phase.
Rose
A calming herb that softens emotional reactivity and eases inflammatory tension headaches.
This blend is not meant to fix hormones. It simply supports the systems that take the most strain in the days before your period, especially for women in perimenopause. It is gentle, practical, and works with your physiology at a time when you need it most.
