The Prana Plate

The Prana Plate Food. Lifestyle. Ayurveda. From the tiniest ant to the most majestic elephant, everything around us contains prana.

Welcome to The Prana Plate, a space of creating, sharing and exploring all the good things in life that raise our life force energy, our prana. The levels of prana we experience throughout the day determine the state of our minds. Prana levels are increased when we see things of beauty, hear our favourite piece of music, exchange deep and meaningful words in conversation, feel the warm embrace of another human, take the first bite of a scrumptious meal or when we take a few moments to observe our breath at the end of a long day. Through our five senses we experience all the magic that is around us. Join me on a journey as I explore the sources of prana, with food being the greatest focus. It’s all about sharing and inspiring healthier food choices for a lighter, brighter, happier state of mind!

A recent South African university study revealed the presence of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in certain sanitary pads and panty liners — including some labelled as “free from harmful substances”. This highlights how important it is to understand what comes into contact with our bodies every single month.

Through the lens of Ayurveda, menstruation is governed by Apāna Vāta, the downward-moving energy responsible for elimination and release. So we choose practices and products that support flow.

Your body is not separate from nature — and the choice you make should be practical for your lifestyle.

Fasting is a sacred pause — a time where the body gently detoxifies and the mind becomes clear, creating space for more intentional prayer.

This is for my Muslim friends, family, and community who wish to fast in a way that is both balanced and deeply nourishing — so your fast is not only spiritually uplifting, but physically supported too.

Do share with someone observing Ramadan.🌙

The final post in this series.✨

Ayurveda reminds us that healing is never one-size-fits-all. Even something as nourishing as healthy fats must be introduced at the right time — first we ensure adequate digestion, then we build deeper nourishment. Because healing is not a protocol — it is a relationship with your body.

If you’re ready for that journey, I’m here 🤍

In light of Epilepsy Awareness Week, I wanted to share the kind of support that helped me feel safe – physically and emotionally. Whether you are supporting a loved one or living with epilepsy yourself - this post is for you.

Save it so you can come back to it when needed.

Share with someone who would want to understand.

This part of my journey taught me to listen - to my body, to my breath, and my nervous system.

My Epilepsy Story | National Epilepsy Week 🇿🇦

I’ve carried this story quietly for many years.
Today, I’m sharing it on this platform — not for sympathy, but for understanding.

Epilepsy isn’t just seizures.
It’s silence.
Stigma.
Fear of being “othered.”
The loss of control.
The exhaustion no one sees.

Growing up, I was taught that hiding my diagnosis would protect me. And maybe, at that time, it did. But silence also isolates. It teaches you to shrink yourself.

If you know someone with epilepsy, please remember this:
We don’t need pity.
We need patience.
We need compassion.
We need safe spaces.

And if you live with epilepsy — you are not broken. You are not weak. You are not alone.

More of my journey tomorrow.
Thank you for holding this story with care 💜

It’s been many years since I had an epileptic seizure, yet even today, witnessing someone else have one sends shivers down my spine. I think that’s because I was once that person — and I never fully realised how frightening it must have been for those around me to witness it.

In my teens, I wasn’t open about my diagnosis. I feared being bullied, excluded, or made to feel “less than.” But years later, when I finally found the courage to share my story, I was met with warmth, care, and compassion from friends and family — something I deeply appreciated.

Now, I understand that alongside love and sympathy, the most empowering question we can ask someone with epilepsy is: “How can I support and care for you if you have a seizure?” ... because the scariest part isn’t seeing someone lose control of their body — it’s not knowing how to help them.

On this International Epilepsy Day, let’s raise awareness, build understanding, and end the stigma.

Stay tuned for my next post, where I share more of my journey this National Epilepsy Week 2026. 💜 🇿🇦 .southafrica

✨ The Prana Plate Spiced Ghee is Here!✨

We’ve been grinding, stirring, and slow-simmering something special… and it’s finally ready 💛 We are excited to introduce our handcrafted Spiced Ghee in two beautiful, intentional flavours:

Chai Boost — aromatic, warming, and deeply comforting. Infused with our traditional chai masala blend of freshly ground spices, gently toasted, then slowly infused into golden ghee for that cozy, hug-in-a-jar feeling.. Perfect in warm milk, porridge, baking, or simply spread on toast.

Turmeric Boost — golden, grounding, and supportive. Ghee gently infused with freshly ground turmeric, black pepper, and ginger, lovingly infused into ghee for a golden, grounding glow you can cook with every day or incorporate into your evening golden milk ritual.

Made in small batches, slow-infused, with patience and a whole lot of care to bring warmth, nourishment, and flavour into your kitchen.

Some days we’re carrying far more than we let on. And sometimes, all it takes is one gentle word… one moment of connection… to remind us that we’re not moving through this life alone.

Words carry prana — the subtle energy that can lift us upward or pull us down. So may we choose words that bring softness, expansion, and steadiness - for ourselves and for the people whose paths cross ours, even for a moment.

If you’ve been carrying a lot these past few days, know that it will get lighter…
and you’re not alone. ❤️
