🌟TALKING TIPS FOR TODDLERS!🌟

Hi parents!👋As Speech Therapists, we love helping little ones find their voice. If you’re wondering how to support your toddler’s language development at home, here are 3 quick tips you can try today:

🗣1. Talk about what you’re doing
Describe your actions during everyday routines. "I’m pouring the juice. Look at the orange juice!" It helps your child link words with actions!

📚2. Read together daily
Even just 5-10 minutes a day makes a big difference. Choose books with simple pictures and repeat favourites often!

🤷‍♀️3. Give choices
Instead of “Do you want a snack?” try “Do you want an apple or a banana?” This encourages your child to use words to express choices!

Every child develops at their own pace, but if you ever have questions about your toddler’s speech or language, we’re here to help!❤️

What happens when a group of passionate therapists work side by side, each bringing their own lens - but sharing the same values?

Conversations stretch across disciplines. Ideas are exchanged. Decisions are considered with attention. And support becomes something shared, not siloed.

That’s why we make time for regular multidisciplinary team meetings - to pause, listen, and learn from each other, so the support we offer stays thoughtful and connected.

We’re grateful to be part of a team that grows stronger every day through collaboration and shared insight.

🗣️ Every Voice Matters!

At our practice, we believe that communication is a basic human right. Whether it’s helping a child say their first words or supporting them as they develop their skills, we’re here to walk that journey with you.

Speech therapy isn’t always about perfect speech - it’s about connection, confidence, and being heard. It’s about giving children the tools they need to express themselves, build relationships, and thrive in their world.

We understand that every child’s path is unique, and progress can look different for each family. Patience, encouragement, and celebrating small victories are part of the process.

Together, we can help little voices grow stronger every day.

📚 Reading with your child: A daily dose of language magic! 🧠💬

At the Cape Town Therapy Hub, the speech therapy team is always encouraging families to make reading part of their daily routine - even just a few minutes can make a big difference!

Here’s why reading with your child is so powerful for speech and language development:

✨ Expands vocabulary: children hear and learn new words in context

🧠 Builds comprehension: they begin to understand how stories and ideas connect

đź’¬ Improves listening and attention skills

đź‘„ Encourages expressive language: talking about the story helps them learn to express themselves

❤️ And best of all, it’s quality bonding time you’ll both treasure

Our Tip: Don’t just read the book - talk about it!

Ask open-ended questions: “What do you think will happen next?”
Talk about feelings: “Why do you think they were sad?”
Practice retelling: “Can you tell me what happened at the end?”

Daily reading is a simple, joyful way to support your child’s communication development - and it’s never too early (or too late) to start. 📖💕

Whether it's 5 minutes or 20, reading with your child makes a difference 🤓📚

Today is World Autism Awareness & Acceptance Day!

Let’s take a moment to spread love, understanding, and acceptance for autistic individuals. Every individual is unique, and every voice matters. Together, we can create a world where everyone is celebrated for who they are.

Let’s raise awareness, break down barriers, and foster inclusivity ✨

On Saturday, our Speech Therapists (Liné Kruger & Alyxé Rosenberg) attended a workshop focused on current theories to support delayed readers in primary school📚

Our therapists at the Cape Town Therapy Hub strongly believe in staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices to provide the best possible support for our clients.

When you have a neurotypical child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like dances and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditions, organizations and clubs.

But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and assignments a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parent and child alike.

This is the week of SPED (Special Education), Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness.

For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people.

Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface.

Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted!!

If you choose, please "copy and paste" (by touching and holding the text) onto your profile in honor of all children who are deemed "different".
Our world would be far less beautiful without them.
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤

Remember kindness goes a long way so ALWAYS be kind!

Yesterday Liné Kruger (Director & Speech Therapist) and Abigail Buys (Kinderkineticist) had the pleasure of attending a multidisciplinary breakfast to celebrate ADHD Awareness Month. A big thank you to the Goldilocks and The Bear Foundation for the invitation!

The morning was truly inspiring, featuring insightful talks from guest speakers Prof. Renata Schoeman, Jo-lynne du Randt, and John Kennedy.

It was wonderful to connect with other professionals and learn more about the foundation's mission to provide mental health support and early intervention to children in underprivileged communities. We are truly amazed by the exceptional work you do!
