PENGUIN ENCOUNTERS..
This morning there was me and a friend surfing a decent bank in the middle of the beach, Just us and three adult penguins with one juvenile. They were clearly curious about us.
Then they must have called their friends to check us out because all of a sudden there was a group of 20 of the little flappers.
They came up so close (a couple of meters away) and watched us intently. have never had such a friendly encounter.
Does anyone have any explanation for this surf speciation type behavior in penguins?
Actually quite stoked to be back at this beach.

Just had to share this.
Take a long look at the arm gestures and body posture of this surfer. He's not a young man! But he is ripping with ease and style because he has already imprinted the body positioning and timing into his Motor control system. No thinking is required. Just doing !
One of the key actions that we drilled in yesterdays Yoga For Surfers Workshop in Kommetjie was the "rolling energy balls" drill which involves holding a large imaginary ball in front of one's body and torsioning around through stances.
It drew a few chuckles and jokes in the workshop. People would be self conscious to use this as a warm up on the beach as I suggested, but if you look closely here in the slow mo. It is pretty clear that the action of smooth rail to rail surfing is exactly the same as the rolling energy ball drill that we were doing.
Low center of gravity.
Shoulders forward.
Arms in front.
Eyes lead the way.
Instinctive, flowing, with thoughtless awareness.
That's what good surfing is all about.

Dawn peak climb in Cedarberg with Johnny the very agile sheep dog leading the way. Grateful for mobile and strong feet.

I am really looking forward to this experience. Sharing yoga knowledge and surfing knowledge with surfers in an idyllic 😄location. We will work on recovery, mobility, mental skills, technique drills and enjoy trading high quality waves. This is the work I love!
