Celebrating DNA Day 2026🧬

Every major question in genomics began as something science couldn't yet answer.

Each breakthrough didn't just add knowledge. It rewrote the frame. The first truly gapless human genome was only completed in 2022. For decades, we were reading the blueprint with gaps we didn't fully acknowledge. Now we can read it whole.

At CPGR, that resolution is what we bring to African research - where the most genetically diverse populations on earth remain the most under-sequenced. The blueprint belongs to everyone. The infrastructure to read it should too.

🌱🔬 Microbiomes hold the secrets to health, agriculture, and biotechnology - but only if we can read their genes.
With targeted metabarcoding (16S/ITS), we profile specific microbial communities with precision. With shotgun metagenomics, we capture the complete microbial landscape. Long-read sequencing (LRS) makes these workflows easier:
Ultra-long reads to resolve complex or repetitive genomes and link genes to hosts
Direct methylation detection captures DNA/RNA base modifications (5mC, 6mA) without PCR or chemical treatment
Native sequencing preserves DNA/RNA context for epigenetic and functional analyses
Strain-level resolution distinguishes closely related microbes using sequence + epigenetic signatures
Comprehensive resistome & virulome profiling to detect AMR and virulence factors in one run
Overcomes identification unculturable microbes (VBNC)

Africa holds the greatest human genetic diversity in the world yet remains underrepresented in global genomic research.

This World Health Day, we highlight the importance of building a future where scientific progress benefits everyone.

At CPGR, we are committed to advancing inclusive genomics supporting research that reflects diverse populations and drives more accurate, meaningful health outcomes.

Because better data doesn’t just improve science it improves lives.

The questions are getting bolder. So are the breakthroughs.

South Africa's innovation ecosystem isn't waiting - it's building. Engaging researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and science councils united around one mission: turning discovery into impact.

We exhibited at SA Innovation Week 2026 as a TIA-supported technology platform - positioned at the intersection of science and commercialization, ready to connect the multi-OMICS capability South Africa's innovators in health, agriculture, and the bioeconomy need to move forward.

Two days. Hundreds of conversations. One ecosystem moving forward.

One conversation can change everything.

That's the power of bringing the right people into the same environment - innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors united around a single purpose: turning ideas into real impact for real communities. This propels the bioeconomy.

We're proud to be part of SA Innovation Week - SAIW, a platform that does exactly this and grateful to Technology Innovation Agency for making these connections possible.

The ecosystem grows when we grow together. 🌱

International HPV Awareness Day

Understanding HPV’s mechanism of action through integrated OMICS is redefining how we approach prevention and intervention. Strain-level genomics, viral-host interaction profiling, and pathway-level insights are no longer supplementary - they are strategic imperatives for refining vaccines, strengthening diagnostics, and advancing targeted therapies.

If we are serious about reducing HPV-driven disease burden, our science must be as precise as the biology we seek to understand.
This is where rigorous, data-driven research moves from discovery to protection.

Today, on Rare Disease Day, we reaffirm that equity in research is non-negotiable. Understanding begins with representation.

Many rare and undiagnosed conditions remain underexplored - especially in populations historically overlooked. By empowering inclusive OMICS research, we ensure science reflects the full spectrum of human diversity, driving more equitable health outcomes for all.

Cancer affects millions of lives globally, but access to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment remains unequal. At CPGR, we believe that OMICS research plays a critical role in closing the cancer care gap, especially in African populations that remain underrepresented in global research.

By empowering cancer research, we contribute to a future where cancer care is more precise, inclusive, and equitable.

Today, we stand with researchers, clinicians, patients, and communities working towards better cancer outcomes for all.

Before 2025 ends, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a year shaped by collaboration, capacity building, and scientific progress.

From engaging with the global genomics community and strengthening multi-institutional partnerships, to expanding hands-on training through CPGR Academy and advancing our technology stack, each milestone moved us closer to translating biology into meaningful insight.

We explored new frontiers in third-generation sequencing, piloted innovative array technologies, contributed to conversations in cancer research and preventative medicine, and continued investing in the people, platforms, and partnerships that drive impactful discovery.

Thank you to our collaborators, trainees, partners, and team for being part of this journey. Here’s to building on this momentum as we step into 2026—ready for deeper insight, smarter design, and discovery with purpose.

Please note: CPGR will resume activities on 05 January 2026.

🎄 That’s a Wrap for 2025

We wrapped up the year by slowing down and celebrating together - a creative afternoon at Clay Café and a fun Secret Santa gift exchange. A simple reminder that great science is built by people who connect, collaborate, and enjoy the journey together.

As we head into the holidays, we’re grateful for our team, our leaders, our partners, and the broader CPGR community who made 2025 meaningful.

Please note: CPGR will be closed from 18 December 2025 and will reopen on 05 January 2026.

Wishing everyone a restful and joyful holiday season.
