💕The Month of Love 💕

Our counsellors, Amicah and Jess, created this interactive whiteboard activity inviting our adolescents and caregivers to complete the sentence:

“I feel loved when…”

From “my friends check in on me” to “my mom asks how I am” and even “my cat sits on my lap”, the board quickly filled with heartfelt reminders that love shows up in everyday moments.

At The Youth Hub, we believe that helping young people recognize, name and experience love, including self-love, is a powerful part of building emotional wellbeing.

Thank you to every young person who shared a piece of their heart with us this month. 💌✨

Take a few intentional moments to check in with yourself.
Pause and ask, “How am I really feeling?” Track your mood, notice your energy, and give yourself permission to feel without judgement.
Choose small moments of joy. Dance to your favourite song, enjoy your tea mindfully, or share something that makes you laugh. And remember to protect your mental space — what you read, watch, and listen to has power.
Small steps. Big impact. Be gentle with yourself today. 💛

👾Art & Heart Sessions with The Youth Hub - The Calming Critter Connect 👾

Once a month The Youth Hub hosts Art focused mental health sessions with adolescents at The Groote Schuur Hospital Adolescent Centre of Excellence(ACE).

This session, was hosted by the amazing Student Registered Counsellor Razia. The session focused on adjusting to the start of the new school year, and how to prioritize self-care.

Razia led the session, and guided participants on how to make their own calming critters using wool and other materials.

Our participant had a blast during the session, and really tapped in to their creativity when designing the own colourful critters.

Participants donated some of these critters to the ACE stall at the Groote Schuur market to help raise funds for the facility!

Well done to Razia on hosting a very successful & memorable session . And a huge shoutout to our SRC's Nicola & Rea for helping to plan and prepare 💜👾🦋.

The way you speak to yourself matters. Gentle words. Patient thoughts. Kind reminders.
Positive self-talk isn’t about pretending everything is perfect - it’s about choosing compassion over criticism.

Today, remind yourself: you are capable, you are growing, and you deserve kindness, especially from yourself. 🌿

🦋Teen Su***de Prevention Week 8-14 February 2026

This Su***de Awareness Week, we are reminded that many teens carry struggles we cannot always see.

Feelings of hopelessness, overwhelm, or emotional pain can feel isolating, but no young person has to navigate this alone.

Starting the conversation, listening without judgment, and reaching out for support can make a meaningful difference.

We offer confidential counselling for adolescents aged 13–18 years in a safe and supportive space.

If you are worried about a young person, please contact us on 078 960 5610 🦋💚💜.

✨ **Building the future of youth mental health** ✨

Earlier this week, The Youth Hub’s Project Manager Genevieve and Project Coordinator Mishqah had the privilege of meeting with the inspiring Dr Junaid Ismail, founder of ProVision.

Dr Ismail is an aspiring psychiatrist with a strong passion for adolescent psychiatry, which is a field that is both vital and incredibly scarce. With only around 800 psychiatrists in South Africa (just 0.24 per 100,000 people), the need for dedicated youth-focused mental health care has never been greater.

Through ProVision, Dr Ismail is making waves in youth empowerment, mentorship, and career guidance, helping young people envision and work towards meaningful futures. 🌱

Our meeting was productive, energising, and full of possibility. We’re excited about the potential to collaborate and grow a purpose-driven partnership that puts young people first. 🦋💜💚

Watch this space – big things are coming.
