What have we been up to? We've been busy with screenings!
What is a screening? Think of a bag full of sand, now take the sand and put it into a sieve. Give it a good shake, trying to get all the little peppbles out to get a to a nice soft flowy sand consistency. Take those little pepples and investigate them a little bit more to see how they got into the sand in the first place and work on eliminating those pebbles.
When we screen speech, we try to make sure we look out for inappropriate articulation errors and see how we can address them early on. No, mommy, a lisp is not cute when your kiddo becomes a lawyer one day.
When we screen language, we make sure to look at how a child understands language and how they use their words to build meaningful sentences. Very often over here, we pick up language confusion and language delays. This will hinder academic success.
When we screen auditory perceptual skills, we look at age appropriate listening skills. Our children are fed visually but not audibly, and we need to help asap.
Lastly, we test hearing. We use the GSI18 portable audiometer to test hearing via air conduction. We also have a look at your child's ears on the inside via an otoscopic examination. We've seen some interesting ears over the years!
If you would like your school to do screenings, give us a call!
