Smokers believe that their unconscious habit of having to smoke a cigarette after a meal, or upon waking up or after a stressful experience, is something that they need and something that they cannot change. I used to be a really good smoker, I smoked between 15 and 25 cigarettes a day depending on my social activities and stress levels. Like all of us I knew deep down that smoking was not good for me. Every winter I suffered badly from bronchitis that would sometimes convert into pneumonia and I knew that smoking was hindering my ability to heal. After many different attempts to stop smoking (I tried sprays, gum, you name it), I eventually decided to go cold turkey. One Friday after work, I announced to my family that I would be staying in bed all weekend and that when I got up on Monday, I would be a NON smoker! And that’s exactly what I did … I bought myself a really fat book, a bag of baby carrots and a 5 litre bottle of spring water and I went to bed. I did get up on Monday a NON smoker and I’m proud to say that I have never smoked again. However, I wouldn’t wish the cravings and withdrawal that I experienced on anyone! I remember thinking that there HAS to be a better way to Quit Smoking???
