Great experience at the Day Hospital Association of South Africa conference this week. There is a perception that South Africa only has public and private health care options. However, this is false. Health workers use Vula across public and private health facilities. Shannon from Insight Actuaries & Consultants presented the data showing that South Africa has a large ‘missing / massive middle’ of patients that use both public and private health facilities. Looking forward to working with Day Hospitals who have an opportunity to serve patients in this group. Exciting times ahead!

Message from our CEO Dr William Mapham "Thank you to the CMSA for inviting me to their 70th Anniversary titled "Specialist Medicine in South Africa". I presented Vula Medical in the context of AI's potential to advance access to specialist medicine. Along side Dr Rubin Pillay, Dr Kamlin Ekambaram and Dr Venshika Bachan there was a panel debate with many questions regarding the future of specialist medicine and how health workers in South Africa can play a role in the development of new technologies by storing and protecting their data with tools like Vula."

At Vula we take security seriously. We have recently contracted a security company to evaluate security of our system, and to determine if there are any ways they can break into the system. No significant problems were found, and we will be implementing recommendations to improve security further. We will continue to protect your data so that you have one less thing to worry about. Compliance is an ongoing process not a certificate.

Insight Actuaries hosted their Annual Foresight event last week. The theme of "Co-Create" was personified by Shannon Phillips who presented examples from Vula that show health workers in public and private facilities work together to get the right care, at the right time at the right place. The common misperception is that South Africa has two separate health systems purely private and purely public. This is not true. The reality is that there are many people who use both types of services concurrently to get the care they need.
