From Start to FireSpark

FireFly Biofuel started as a hobby. Playing around with sawdust to produce a firelighter that meets our family’s ridiculous high standard in product. Trying to eliminate aspects that everyone complain about. Petroleum Stink, Black Smoke, Quick burnouts, evaporation, lower quality that ends up just costing you money.

Taking all in consideration, Kai brought other elements to the process to not only extend the life of the FireSpark but to also ensure that the burn is long enough to get nightmare wood going. He found that coffee is an excellent fuel source, and combined with the right ingredients produces a firelighter that does not just burn longer, but burns more than a 100 degrees hotter than petroleum. It took Kai nearly 18 months to perfect his recipe and through trial and error, produced the worlds first and only firelighters made from recycled coffee. No toxic chemicals and no petroleum. Biodegradable and yes, even after burning the ash can be thrown on the grass as coffee is super high in healthy nitrates.

Realising that we are also stopping the cycle of used coffee grounds going to landfill we could only grasp at what a positive impact our recycling project has on the environment. We started small with one or 2 coffee shops and today we are currently receiving over 200kg of used coffee waste from 8 coffee shops on a weekly basis. To date we have stopped over 2,5 ton of coffee waste going to landfill which normally creates toxic greenhouse gasses.

YES! and we are claiming it. We make the BEST firelighters! Just but a couple of pointers to consider next time you purchase your firelighters. Does it tick the same boxes as the FireSpark?

Made from recycled coffee (waste to energy)

No Petroleum, No Toxins, No Black Smoke (no more toxins going into your grill, your food, into you) The fact that we have no chemicals in our product gives us the surety to also claim that it is child and pet friendly. We don’t recommend you feeding the FireSpark to your pets or children, but heck, life happens. If you caught either of them chewing on the FireSpark, no need to rush to the hospital. (you might want to go buy some thicker toilet paper for those fiber bunnies) Plus none of the stink on your fingers when trying to handle the food on your braai.

FireSpark is made from recycled produce. Recycled coffee, sugar, vegetable based wax and sawdust. 2 out of the 4 of the FireSpark ingredients are recycled.

Burns for a minimum of 20 minutes. Can you honestly say the same about your firelighters? Coffee does not just burn hotter but longer than petroleum but it burns cleaner too. Say goodby to struggling with news paper and paraffin. You only need one FireSpark to get your wet / hard / nightmare wood going. It’s our motto after all. ONE FIRESPARK...ONE FIRE

As you gathered the FireSpark is a 100% Biodegradable product thus being completely environmentally neutral. No plastic wrapping as there is nothing to evaporate. No shelf life as there is nothing to “go off”. Even the packaging is made of recycled Kraft cardboard. Just burn it. Zero waste!

And here is a point that completely came to us by accident. Natural Insect repellent. We know right! How awesome is that. Burning coffee gives off a natural “shoo fly” smoke off. Doesn't hurt them...just chases them away. Going to be awesome around a camp fire keeping them mozzies away also!

All and all, we are firm believers in “the proof is in the pudding”. Try the FireSpark first and let us know what you think of it.
