The Story of MyMassage

People ask me often what motivated me to start a new massage studio in Cape Town. Well the story is not that long but it is personal. About three years ago I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Scleroderma. Its effects on the body are varied but in most cases there is tightening and thickening of skin, clutched hands, painful joints, organ involvement and so on. Disability is not too far off if you don’t take immediate steps to slow down its gradual but devastating impact. I am very thankful that I received excellent medical attention earlier on. But I also balanced my healing process with wholistic practices which included massage therapy, eating right and pilates to keep me strong. I was lucky enough to find an amazing massage therapist in Cape Town, Hakim LaRocca, who understood my illness through his research and in-depth knowledge of human muscular structure . Hakim created a massage routine that got me back on my feet and even improved my outlook and mood. Weekly massages without miss! Although my condition will remain chronic, after three years, I am fully functional, full of energy and looking forward to an active future. Today I give enormous credit to massage therapy for my well being.

My own personal experience convinced me that effects of massage therapy go well beyond relaxation and into actual long term healing. Before my illness I couldn’t have imagined being in this line of work. But as I gained myself back I wanted to offer the same opportunity for getting better to others. With Hakim’s help, we decided to launch MyMassage as a place that focuses and specializes in massage with no other distractions. Hakim has developed special routines combining the most effective techniques from various schools of massage healing. We have made the studio a welcoming, comfortable, beautiful and accessible place where clients can feel cared for by specialists. Our therapists are trained and highly experienced which makes a world of difference.
