🦋WHAT DOES THERAPY OFFER?
Many people are still confused or uninformed about what therapy entails.
First and foremost therapy requires a comfortable relationship & connection with your therapist. Research indicates that people who commit to therapy actually like their therapist.
I believe congruence, unconditional positive regard & viewing the client as a capable expert of their own life as requirements for successful therapy. The therapist highlights aspects that need attention, which encourages self awareness, acknowledgment of areas needing improvement and then also how to care for the self in a way that you are comfortable with authentic self & have the tools to maintain your mental & holistic well-being. Humans are unique and have different needs. Some people want a direct approach in there therapy process, this is where the therapist tells you what to do as the expert. Some people want clear answers because they’re finding it difficult to access their authentic self or are indecisive due to a neurodivergence etc. Always ask your therapist what their therapeutic approach is, to ensure an appropriate fit.
Therapy should however always offer:
• Self reflection & awareness
• Skill building
• Support in working through hard stuff
• Accountability
