I graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc in Speech- Language Pathology. I completed my community service at the Carel du Toit Centre, a school for children who are hearing impaired - where an auditory verbal approach is taken. I managed children with a range of medical diagnoses and hearing impairment in collaborative teams. I was also fortunate to be part of outreach programmes in

underprivileged communities in Cape Town. My interest in the school-aged population and working with Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN) grew since. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) has always been an area of great interest to me and have great experience in this area. I work with children and adults with a range of communication disorders which may include or result in speech and language impairments, language & learning difficulties, acquired neurological disorders and swallowing difficulties. I am passionate about including individuals who are significant in the life of my clients , in their intervention. I enjoy all areas of practice as a speech therapist and wish to grow my knowledge and experience therein. In my spare time I seek enriching experiences which help me to grow as an individual and better my contribution to society. I love what I do and am thankful to be in this profession.

It's such an honour to be doing what we do❤️

Truth be told, our clients, whether kiddies or adults are constantly on our minds, in our thoughts and prayers. So much of our time is dedicated to our clients outside of their therapy sessions, but for pay-offs like these - we wouldn't have it any other way!

Now to get back to the magic... 🤓

This poem goes out to all the amazing speech and language therapists who help children, like me, on a daily basis find their voice. If you didn’t do the amazing, selfless job you do then I, for one, wouldn’t have the voice I have today. Thank you.

Earlier intervention is always better.

Earlier intervention is always better.

I know a lot of parents take comfort in these odds- 70-80% of late talkers catch up to their peers by the time they start school. That sounds great- and don’t get me wrong, it IS amazing! But- look at the age- 30 months, that’s 2.5 years. The 70-80% of kids that catch up are rapidly gaining words after that initial late start to talking- which is one thing to keep an eye on as kids get older. But even with that, they have been found to have lasting weaknesses in language skills. So even if you are taking comfort in those numbers, seek help. Get some assessment and speech therapy if it’s at all possible. Be proactive. Early intervention is the BEST thing you can do to help your child have the most positive outcome!
