Mothers as far as you can see, waiting patiently for our Bloom Mama monthly distribution day.

Over 300 showed up last week. Over 300. The line began just after 6am.

As life gets more expensive & winter beckons, the need just keeps growing. So does our determination to show up for these families.

We are desperately in need of donations, both financial & pre-loved items. Swipe left for payment links, drop-off points & donation guidelines.

We are a registered PBO and can issue Section 18A certificates for tax purposes.

Every single rand & every single blanket matters more than you know.

Thank you.

This month, in line with the predictable Cape Town Gen Z trend, I've become addicted to the sauna/cold plunge thing. I've even got one of the silly hats.

I know. Following the trend like a proverbial sheep. But I promise, just this one post and then I'll shut up about it.

Two important things to say. Firstly, I have been drinking matcha for 20 years so I am definitely ahead of the game on that one & not a complete crowd pleaser. And secondly, don't worry, I'm not about to get a tattoo.

But here's what three minutes in cold water has reminded me of. Something I teach every single day. RESISTANCE MAKES IT MUCH WORSE.

When I tense against the cold; when I clench my jaw & brace my whole body, it's unbearable. When I breathe, soften & surrender to what's happening, it becomes manageable. Almost peaceful.

Birth works the same way. Peri-menopause & menopause work the same. Grief, change, ageing. The bits of life we didn't choose & didn't want. They all work the same way.

We can't always control what's coming, but we can choose how we meet it. Resistance or surrender. Clench or breathe. Fight or flow.

I know which one serves me better, but it's still a practice on a daily basis.

If you'd like to practice too (no silly hat required) my pregnancy yoga, post partum yoga, couples birth preparation, peri-menopause classes are open & waiting for you. Schedule & Link in bio to book.

This one is for the mothers.

The ones running on empty. The ones holding everyone else together while quietly wondering when someone is going to hold them.

On Sunday 19th April, 11.30am–1pm, Nena Wright & I are creating exactly that space.

Bloom Together is a morning for mothers to breathe, move & be held. Nena will guide you through Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra; the kind of practice that asks nothing of you except to receive. And I'll be holding a Mothers Circle; a space to land, connect & remember you're not doing this alone.

There will be tea. There will be light snacks. There will be other women who completely, utterly get it.

R450. The Shala Yoga, 15a Wandel Street, Gardens.

Spaces are limited & they will go so if something in you just said yes, book here or follow the link in my bio.

There is something about this season in the world right now. It feels heavy. It feels fast. It feels like too much & not enough all at once.

And if you are growing a baby in the middle of all of it, your nervous system is working harder than you know. Hormones surging, sleep shifting, emotions closer to the surface than usual. Your body is doing something extraordinary & it needs you to stop sometimes. Just for a little while.

This is why I created a Yoga Nidra for Pregnancy.

Yoga Nidra is one of the most deeply restorative practices available to a pregnant woman. Not movement. Not effort. Just guided, conscious rest. The kind that drops you into a place of stillness that no amount of lying on the sofa quite reaches.

And if you're one of the many pregnant women waking at 3am; cortisol spiking, mind racing, unable to drift back off, this is for you too. Instead of lying there staring at the ceiling, download on your phone & press play. Let it carry you back down.
It will hold you when the world & your worries feels like they won't.

Available now on the Blossom & Bloom App, or as a standalone mp4 file for R150. Yours to keep & return to whenever you need it.

Drop me a message here, or find it on the B&B app. Link in my bio or the first comment to register 💗

Next Thursday 19th March, 9.30am–12.30pm, I'm opening my home in Sea Point for Brunch & Baby Massage; one of my favourite mornings & one that Gayle and I try to run once every 3 months.

If your baby is still quite little (preferably under 6 months ) & you're in that tender, beautiful, exhausting, overwhelming fourth trimester bubble, this morning was made for you.

Gayle Friedman (doula, fellow yoga teacher, aromatherapy expert & one of the most knowledgeable women I know around babies & touch) will guide you through a baby massage class. The kind that settles babies, connects you to your little one & gives you a tool you'll use again & again.

And while you're learning & your baby is being loved on, I'll be feeding you. A proper, nourishing, vegetarian brunch made by myself (with a little help from Thank Goodness & Full Circle). Because as we know, new mothers are ravenously hungry & need to be fed well. & frequently!

R495. Spaces are limited.

Book in on the link in my bio, or on my booking plattform bloom-yoga.punchpass.com.

Meet Nena Wright.

This absolute peach of a human is now recording short post-partum content for my Blossom & Bloom App.

An experienced yoga teacher & mum to two year old Roman, she brings empathy, compassion, depth & real life understanding to the fourth trimester & beyond.

Back at B&B HQ we are bloody delighted to have her on board. Welcome Nena 🩷.

Her post-partum practices are dropping onto the Blossom & Bloom App weekly, if you're ready for some gentle movement in the fourth trimester & beyond.

Link to join the app in my bio (Instagram) or the first comment in FaceBook.

Pregnancy asks a lot of the body.

As your baby grows, your centre of gravity shifts, your ligaments soften, & suddenly even simple things like sitting or standing can start to feel uncomfortable.

One of the quiet but powerful things we practise in class is posture; how to sit, how to stand, & how to support the body as it changes week by week.

In this photo, this beautiful 36 week mother is sitting supported against the wall, legs wide, knees gently propped with blocks. The spine is supported, the pelvis is relaxed, and the body can soften instead of fighting gravity.

Small adjustments like this can ease pressure in the lower back, create space for baby, and help the body feel more stable and comfortable.

Often the most valuable thing about pregnancy yoga is not the poses themselves, but learning how to be in your body during this extraordinary time.

If you're pregnant and want to better understand and support your body through this extraordinary time, whilst finding guidance, movement & community along the way, please come and join us in class.

Love
Harriet 🌿
