I love children, their fascination with all things great and small, their awe for the world around them, their innate need to learn, their spontaneity and their amazing ability to see the magic in world around them. I am passionate about helping children who have faced various struggles and I have a heart to help them heal and develop greater resilience in facing life’s challenges. I am a mom of 2 children, Matthew who is 8 and Katie who is 5, who have brought such joy into my life but also opened my world to the many challenges of being a parent and also have given me the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a child. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2004 and working in the corporate world for a number of years I decided on a career change and to follow my passion and dream to work in the psychological field. I went back to study psychology part-time through UNISA and completed my BA (Hons) Psychology qualification in 2012 with Cum Laude. My interest in psychology grew from a yearning to serve the community and “make a small difference”; to journey with others by hearing their life stories and challenges; a fascination of the study of human behaviour and a calling to bring hope to the “broken-hearted”. Training, qualifications & experience:
• B.A. Hons (Psychology) UNISA (Cum Laude)
• B.Com Hons (Accounting) UPE & CA(SA)
• Completed the Introductory and Advanced Play Therapy Workshops with Dr Rhina Blom (Red Shoe Centre)
• Worked with teens & adults as a volunteer counsellor at the Bryanston Methodist Church counselling house and completed the following courses through them:
• Basic Course in Christian Counselling
• Teen Counselling
• Trauma Counselling
• Sand-tray therapy
• Creative techniques in counselling
• Set up and led a community-based Emotional Health Centre for a local NPO which offered individual counselling to adults, play therapy to children, trauma group therapy, art therapy as well as various life skills and character development workshops such as HeartLife. We partnered with various organisations such as SACAP, CASE, ChildLine, The Warehouse and Safeline to provide these services to the community.
