TEAMWORK AND GOOD HEARTS MAKE THE DREAM WORK

On 23 August 2025 another 21 patients from Touws River received cataract surgery and 23 were assessed in the clinic under the excellent leadership and guidance of Dr David Steven from Radiance Foundation.

Thank you to Gift of the Givers for sponsoring this wonderful project and the NGO in Touws River, Compassionate Hearts, for their contributions.

We are also very grateful for the hard work of theatre and clinic staff at Eerste River Hospital, and Drs Wasl and Huwaidi.

EXCITING NEW DEVELOPMENT

On 16 May the opening of the brand new eye clinic at Eerste River Hospital was celebrated in style! The project was driven by the exceptional Dr David Steven from Radiance Foundation.

Refurbished by Gift of the Givers, Dr Sooliman spoke of his appreciation of the work done at Eerste River Hospital and the vital support from the Radiance Foundation.

This event also marked the 10th anniversary of the Radiance Foundation and 20 years since the eye clinic started at Eerste River Hospital.

Attendees included Dr Sooliman, James Kruger (Khayelitsha and Eastern Sub structure director), Dr Adele Anthony (CEO Eerste River Hosptal), Anita Janse Van Rensburg (Radiance Foundation), and Ms Miranda Smouse, a longterm patient of the clinic.

CELEBRATE = to HONOUR

On Friday evening, 14 March, we celebrated Radiance Foundation’s 10 year anniversary and honoured a few of our very special partners and collaborators.

More than 1000 patients have been assisted to date!

We are truly thankful to have reached this milestone with the help of so many people and organisations who have supported us thus far.

In October our Durbanville team partnered with Radiance Foundation and various sponsors to restore sight to 11 patients through cataract surgery. Another 23 cataract surgeries were performed on Saturday, 14 September, by the team lead by Dr David Steven at the Eerste River Hospital’s eye clinic!

This brings us to a total of 60 cataract procedures in 3 months!

Thank huge you to our surgical team, the Rotary Club of Hermanus who funded the procedures, and Healthnet who provided transport.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

Twenty more cataract patients received the precious gift of sight on Saturdag, 17 August. These Overberg patients’ surgeries were sponsored by the generous donations from the Rotary Club of Hermanus.

Radiance Foundation (and of course all of our patients) are so extremely grateful! A huge thank you to everyone involved, including Dr Steven and his team at the Eerste River Hospital Eye Clinic.

We are celebrating quality of lives restored!

Patient Journey – Sandra Smith at Advanced Durbanville with Radiance Foundation

Sandra heard about the surgeries from two of her students, who had successful surgeries themselves. As a pensioner with no medical aid, private surgery seemed impossible and state waiting lists are long. Sandra is looking forward to getting back to her yoga classes and being able to recognise her students from afar.

Patient Journey – Christina at Advanced Durbanville with the Radiance Foundation

Christina waited two years just to get onto the waiting list for her Cataract Surgery. She was then referred to Dr Junet van der Merwe. Christina said she needed to be really brave, as she requires surgery on both eyes. She is looking forward to the day she can get back into the kitchen and bake to her heart’s delight.
