Let’s play a game:

Things that aren’t linked to cancer, even though RFK Jr, wellness influencers, and media fear-bait headlines keep claiming they do (and yes, that includes liberal media outlets like the Guardian & WaPo who misrepresent science):
❌ Artificial sweeteners
❌ Food dyes
❌ Microwaves, cell phones, and TSA body scanners
❌ Glyphosate
❌ Parabens
❌ GMOs
❌ Seed oils

Now…
Things that are linked to cancer—but wellness influencers conveniently ignore (or actively deny):
✅ Alcohol
✅ To***co use
✅ UV radiation
✅ Smoking (yes, including cannabis and va**ng)
✅ Low dietary fiber
✅ Certain viral infections (like HPV and Hep B)

Fake risks are easy to blame, demonize, and monetize—and it sounds a lot “sexier” to claim some evil food company is giving everyone cancer than discussing the nuance of REAL factors that impact risk of the hundreds of different cancers.

It’s way more profitable to sell “toxin-free” shampoo and detox smoothies than it is to discuss vaccines that prevent cancer, or actual modifiable risk factors like sun protection and drinking habits.

Next time someone says “they’re poisoning us,” ask: who’s “they”?

I would argue the “poison” is pseudoscience and disinformation spread by people with no training in oncology, immunology, or toxicology… but they sure do have discount codes and vibes.

Almost like people who don’t understand complex cancer biology maybe shouldn’t be talking about it at all. 👀

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, six-year-old Jace Broadbin, born blind due to a genetic condition called Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), has regained partial vision through a world-first gene therapy. This condition, caused by mutations in the AIPL1 gene, leads to severe retinal dystrophy and legal blindness from birth.

Jace underwent the experimental treatment in 2020 at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. The procedure involved a 60-minute keyhole surgery in which healthy copies of the AIPL1 gene were injected into his retina.

Within a month, Jace began responding to light, and soon after, he could identify toys and navigate his environment with greater ease. This treatment was performed on one eye to assess its safety, while the untreated eye continued to deteriorate as expected.

This advancement, published in The Lancet, marks the first effective treatment for the most severe form of childhood blindness and offers hope for future gene therapy developments.

Expecting moms, if you are gearing up for your first gynae appointment, here is a crucial nugget about screening tests.

🧬 Did you know? Humans usually have 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 in total) in almost every cell. Any change in this count can affect development, potentially leading to genetic conditions like Down syndrome.

👶 A TriScreen Non-Invasive Prenatal Screening (NIPT) test, available from as early as ten weeks gestation, checks your baby's DNA in your bloodstream—offering peace of mind.

📱 For a deep dive into your prenatal journey and NIPT insights, check out the NIPT Insights App. It's your go-to hub for educational tools and helpful info.

September is Newborn Screening Awareness Month 👶🏾

Newborn screening is recognised all over the world as a form of preventative healthcare.

Newborn screening tests babies in the first few days of life for selected genetic and metabolic diseases that are often not apparent at birth. These congenital (from birth) diseases can progress rapidly to severe illness if not detected early and treatment started. Severe complications such as brain damage and possibly even death, can be prevented by this simple test.

Newborn Screening allows the early detection of uncommon metabolic disorders that are not always apparent at birth.

Early detection and treatment of these conditions save lives.

Do you have any questions regarding NEWBORN SCREENING? Pop them in the comment below 💙
