Cape Mental Health recently welcomed Philipp Bryant, a lecturer from the Protestant University of Applied Sciences (EvH Bochum), the largest Protestant university in Germany, to present a session on Disability, Ableism, and Intersectionality. The session was attended by 47 CMH staff members from different departments across the organisation. The talk created a space for open discussion and reflection on important topics such as the different models of disability, ableism, and the importance of recognising bias in our work.
Philipp also spoke about professionalisation in social work. He said that being professional is not only about having qualifications. It also involves practical experience, self-reflection, good communication skills, and the ability to build strong working relationships. The staff left the session with a deeper understanding of these concepts and practical tools to support more inclusive, empathetic, and ethical service delivery.

Cape Mental Health would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our incredible sponsors, partners and golfers who supported the CMH Charitable Golf Day held on 9 April. It reminded us of one vital truth: when we come together, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate world. But we’re just getting started. Our vision is to grow this event into a flagship journey for mental health awareness and fundraising. We want this to be a premier event on the calendar where golf drives real change for people living with a mental condition. We invite you to continue this journey with us and look forward to your return next year. Bring others along and continue championing mental health in your spaces, workplaces, and communities.
