Birthworks supports the work of midwife Karen Clark in Hamburg Eastern Cape where mothers from the local rural community can experience gentle, compassionate antenatal, birth and postnatal care.

Many pregnant and labouring women have to spend money they don't have on travelling the long distances to poorly resourced health facilities, often with poor outcomes. Bus Fare Babies meets the needs of women who can now be cared for by their community, in their community as work is underway to build another birth rondavel. These are simple structures where women are able to access antenatal care as well as facilities to birth at.
