TYING THE KNOT
The phrase “tying the knot” originates from ancient marriage rituals, most notably Celtic handfasting, where couples’ hands were literally bound together with cords to symbolize unity. Over time, this ritual evolved into a metaphor used across cultures to represent the binding commitment of marriage.

Your wedding vows are one of the most personal and meaningful parts of your ceremony—they’re your chance to speak from the heart and share what your partner truly means to you.

There’s no “right” way to write vows. Some couples choose something romantic and poetic, others keep it simple and sincere, and some add a touch of humour to reflect their relationship. What matters most is that your words feel authentic to you.

The Choice is yours

Your wedding ceremony should feel like you — not a checklist of traditions.

While traditions can be beautiful and meaningful, they’re not rules you have to follow. Whether you choose to walk down the aisle together, skip certain formalities, include cultural elements, or create something entirely unique, the choice is yours.

This is your love story. Your ceremony can honour the past, embrace the present, and reflect the future you’re building together — in whatever way feels most authentic to you.

Because at the end of the day, the most important tradition is celebrating your commitment, your way.

SAY I Do is not just a service, it’s a celebration of what marriage can mean. It’s about helping couples create ceremonies that reflect their story, their values, and their dreams.

Because when you say “I do,” you’re not just agreeing to a day. You’re stepping into a lifetime. And that deserves to be honoured with warmth, authenticity, and heart.

Thirty‑two years ago, I said “I do.” Today, I still do — to love, to hope, to the belief that marriage matters. And through SAY I Do, I get to help others begin their own unforgettable journeys.

Why I Believe in Marriage

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many couples in marriage preparation and counselling. I’ve seen the nervous excitement before the vows, the quiet strength in partnerships, and the joy of building a life together.

I believe in marriage because I’ve lived it — its beauty, its challenges, its resilience. I know that a ceremony is more than words; it’s a promise, a foundation, and a celebration of hope. The wedding is but a single day, but the commitment is so much more.

A Tribute in Every Ceremony

SAY I Do is, in part, a tribute to [our] marriage. It’s a way of honouring the vows we made, the life we built, and the belief that marriage is worth celebrating deeply. Every ceremony I craft carries a piece of that legacy, the understanding that love is both fragile and powerful, ordinary and extraordinary.

Thirty‑two years ago, I stood before family and friends and promised to love, honour, and cherish. It was the beginning of a journey that gave me 18 wonderful years of marriage, built on nine years of love before that. Together, we raised two incredible children, built a home filled with laughter (and some not-so-funny moments), and even started a business or two.

Life gave us joy, challenges, and countless memories. And then, far too soon, cancer stole him from us. His absence is felt every day, but his memory lives on, in our children, in the lessons we shared, and in the love that shaped me.
