Temporal bone histopathology enables detailed examination of cochlear pathology. These factors significantly affect the functional outcomes of cochlear implantation. By correlating these findings with specific electrode types, clinicians can optimise electrode selection based on the patient's cochlear anatomy and pathophysiological condition. 2026 Cape Town Masterclass on Peripheral, Central and Functional Vestibular and on Ocular Motor Disorders.
The collective efforts in advancing vestibular medicine in South Africa have been remarkable, particularly through the contributions of world-renowned Neurologist, Professor Michael Strupp. His expertise has catalysed unprecedented growth in the field, fostering collaboration among medical professionals dedicated to improving patient care. A prime example of this progress was the successful Masterclass, hosted by Cape Hearing Implants (CHi) and held on 6 March in Cape Town, which showcased our medical community's commitment to the development of vestibular medicine.

This event not only highlighted the importance of continuous education and collaboration but also set the stage for future advancements in the field. Professor Strupp's involvement has been instrumental, as he has consistently provided invaluable insights that drive both research and clinical practice in vestibular disorders.

Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate Professor Strupp's return for another workshop in Somerset West on 1 October 2026. This upcoming event promises to enrich our understanding further, offering the latest evidence and developments in vestibular medicine. Together, through such initiatives, we are solidifying a strong foundation for the continued evolution of this vital medical speciality in South Africa.
