Your Friend in Need Health knowledge sharing – AUTISM
Most of you might have noticed that the number of people diagnosed with Autism increased dramatically. An American source mentioned the following statistics: An increase from 1 person out of every 10 000 people in 1970 to 1 out of every 54 people in 2020.
Some would say that the increase in number of people diagnosed with Autism can be explained by the fact that the methods used, to diagnose people with Autism, improved. Others are convinced that environmental factors that contribute to Autism increased dramatically.
Then there are still many doctors who still believe that genetics is a main cause of Autism, but it seems to be unlikely that genetics can be blamed for the increase in numbers.
So, what is Autism:
Based on different sources, Autism is a disorder that has to do with a person’s development, measured and compared to what is normally expected at specific developmental stages. Autism is a condition seen to be on a spectrum. The reason for this is that the challenges faced by different individuals, diagnosed with Autism, can vary significantly.
Autism can normally be identified before the age of three, but in many cases, it is diagnosed much later. It also seems to be more common in boys than girls.
Some of the most general indicators are: The person’s interaction with others, visible in the way he/she communicates and learns; repetitive behaviours; difficulty to adapt to changes; lack of focus or prolonged, intense focus on a specific thing / actions / subject, he/she is really interested in; a strong preference to eat only specific foods with specific textures; a general lack of interest in others; stiff or exaggerated body language; difficulty to understand the body language of others and difficulty to function in society.
The intelligence (IQ) of people on the Autism spectrum may vary from very low to very high. The symptoms of some diagnosed with Autism may improve over time and others not.
As per various sources, Autism normally starts in early childhood and the possible causes are in general identified as:
• Environmental
• Biological
• Genetic
Seeing that this is too general to address, we found specific sources, with experience in the treatment of Autism, to provide their perspective on more specific causes. These are:
• Different types of toxins in the body that the body battles to get rid of. (Not always picked up by a blood test. Not always also in the blood)
• Inflammation of the brain that might be as a result of a Gluten / Grain allergy
• Digestion issues, that might be linked to foods consumed such as grain, refined carbohydrates, sugar, etc.
and then, a correlation with the following was also highlighted:
• Mitochondrial disfunction
• High Homocysteine levels
• Amino Acid abnormalities
• A lack in Glutathione; Vitamin A, D, E; Zinc; Selenium; B12; Folate; C0-Q10 and Omega 3.
So, what should then be done to deal with Autism:
If you have experience in dealing with Autism, you might have heard the following advice before:
• Use clear, simple language
• Use visuals to support communication
• Break tasks down
• Ensure that the environment the person is exposed to is calm
• Keep to daily routines
• Reinforce good behaviour
• Find a good support group
etc.
BUT, we believe that most people affected would like to hear what more can be done than just managing the condition.
What we suggest are:
• Sort out any digestive issues
• Follow a Keto diet (lots of videos and advice on this on the internet)
• Supplement with Omega 3 (Good quality)
• Supplement on Minerals (Natural mineral water or mineral supplement)
• Use a very good detox product (We have one that was specifically developed for Autism)
• Use a good herbal Focus formula, if focus is an issue.
• Exposure to the sun on a frequent basis (not to get burned)
