Lycoderm attended the 8th Combined Dermatology Congress of South Africa from 22-25 August 2024, hosted by the windy (but friendly!) city of Gqeberha.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to visit our stand and engage with us. It was a pleasure to have meaningful conversations and reconnect with colleagues and loyal customers.

We were thrilled to also meet quite a few registrars who will soon embark on their journey as qualified dermatologists. Best of luck to all of you on this exciting path!

One of the best approaches to prevent sunspots and actinic keratoses is by –

1. Diligent use of a broad-spectrum SPF50 sunscreen,
2. Incorporating a daily topical antioxidant (ask us @ Lycoderm!!), and
3. Taking oral Niacinamide (also known as Vitamin B3 or nicotinamide).

Studies have shown that oral Vitamin B3 can help reduce the development of new sunspots and diminish existing ones by up to 35%. Niacinamide has also demonstrated effectiveness in lowering the incidence of solar keratosis and certain types of skin cancer, such as basal and squamous cell carcinoma. The recommended dosage for oral supplementation is 500 mg of Vitamin B3 twice a day.

Topical diclofenac gel in a hyaluronic acid gel base has been proven to effectively treat actinic keratosis (AKs) at an affordable cost.

This treatment is registered and available in Europe, the US, and Canada, and can be can be custom-made with a prescription from Lycoderm Laboratories in South Africa.

The gel is applied twice daily for between 60-90 days before discontinuing.
