Astigmatism is a common eye condition that affects how the eye focuses light. Instead of having a round shape like a basketball, the front surface of the eye (cornea) or lens is shaped more like a football. This causes light to focus unevenly on the retina at the back of the eye, making both nearby and faraway objects appear blurry or distorted. People with astigmatism often need glasses or contact lenses to correct their vision and see things clearly.
