Head Injury Awareness Day reminds us that brain injuries can happen in an instant—but
their impact can last a lifetime. 🧠💙 From falls and road accidents to sports injuries, head trauma affects millions of individuals and families each year. Today, we raise awareness about prevention, early recognition of symptoms, and the importance of proper medical care
and rehabilitation. By wearing helmets, driving safely, and supporting those on their recovery journey, we can help protect minds and change lives.
Head injury physiotherapy is an important part of recovery after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion. 🧠💙 It helps people regain strength, balance, and movement so they can return to daily life safely and confidently.
In the early stages, physiotherapy focuses on breathing support, preventing stiffness, and managing muscle tightness for patients who may be bed-bound. As recovery progresses, therapy includes guided exercises for sitting, standing, walking, and rebuilding independence. Balance and coordination exercises help reduce dizziness and prevent falls,
while specific concussion treatments can address headaches, vertigo, and visual problems.
Strength training and functional activities—like reaching, standing up from a chair, or walking safely—are also key parts of the journey.
Every treatment plan is personalized, and physiotherapists often work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide complete care. Recovery takes time, but the right support can make a life-changing difference.

How Physiotherapy Can Help With Kidney Stones 🩺💧
Kidney stones can be incredibly uncomfortable, but the right movement and guidance can help support your recovery.
🚶 Gentle Movement & Exercise
Activities like walking, swimming, or stationary cycling can encourage natural movement and help stones pass by using gravity and motion.
🧘 Stretching
Light stretching and gentle yoga poses can promote relaxation and ease discomfort. Intense abdominal exercises should be avoided.
🤲 Manual Techniques
In some cases, physiotherapists may use techniques such as percussion, vibration, or positioning to support stone movement (when appropriate).
🔥 Pain Relief Strategies
Low-impact exercise, movement guidance, and warm compresses can help manage pain and muscle tension during flare-ups.
🛏️ Postural Drainage Techniques
Specific positioning methods may assist stone movement and drainage when recommended by a healthcare professional.
⚠️ Important to Know
High-intensity exercise, heavy sweating, and strenuous workouts should be avoided. Kidney stones always require medical assessment to determine the safest treatment plan.
How our physiotherapists can help:
We work alongside your medical care to provide safe movement advice, pain-relief strategies, and tailored support to help you stay comfortable and confident during recovery.

World Hearing Day reminds us of the importance of protecting our hearing and supporting
those living with hearing loss. 👂💙 Hearing connects us to conversations, music, learning,
and the world around us—yet millions of people experience preventable hearing challenges.
Today is a call to raise awareness, reduce stigma, promote early testing, and encourage
safe listening habits. By taking simple steps like lowering volume levels, using hearing
protection, and seeking timely care, we can help ensure better hearing health for all.
Feeling dizzy, off-balance, or like the room is spinning? Vestibular physiotherapy may help.
👂✨
Vestibular physiotherapy is a specialized, evidence-based treatment designed to manage
dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems caused by inner ear or neurological conditions. It
helps retrain the brain, eyes, and inner ear to work together again — improving stability and
reducing symptoms.
🔹 It treats conditions like BPPV, vestibular neuritis, Meniere’s disease, vestibular migraines,
and post-concussion dizziness.
🔹 Repositioning maneuvers (like the Epley maneuver) help move inner ear crystals back
where they belong.
🔹 Gaze stabilization exercises improve vision during head movement.
🔹 Habituation exercises reduce sensitivity to movements that trigger dizziness.
🔹 Balance training improves stability and lowers fall risk.
The goal? Less dizziness, less nausea, better balance, and greater confidence in daily life.
💙
If you’re experiencing ongoing vertigo, unsteadiness, or dizziness — especially after a head
injury, infection, or fall — it may be time to seek professional assessment.

💙 Physiotherapy for Migraines 💙

Did you know physiotherapy can be an effective, non-medication approach to managing migraines?

By addressing muscle tension and joint stiffness, especially in the neck and shoulders, physiotherapy can help reduce the frequency, intensity, and duration of migraine attacks.

💙 How Physiotherapy Can Help:

✨ Manual Therapy
Massage, trigger point release, and gentle neck mobilisations to ease tension.

✨ Exercise Therapy
Targeted stretching and strengthening to support the neck and upper back.

✨ Postural Correction
Improving posture and daily ergonomics to reduce strain on the cervical spine.

✨ Dry Needling
Releasing tight muscles and deactivating painful trigger points.

✨ Education & Self-Management
Strategies to manage stress and avoid physical triggers.

💙 Why It Works:

Physiotherapy helps break the “pain cycle” where neck tension triggers migraines, and migraines then increase muscle tightness.

Long-term care can provide relief and prevent future flare-ups.
If migraines are affecting your quality of life, you don’t have to manage it alone 💙

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles that sits at the bottom of your pelvis. These muscles support important organs like the bladder, uterus, and bowel. They help with things like bladder and bowel control, s*xual function, and core strength.
Over time, the pelvic floor can become weaker. This can happen due to pregnancy, childbirth, ageing, or certain medical conditions. When these muscles aren’t working as well, it may lead to problems like leaking urine, bowel issues, or d7iscomfort during s*x.
The good news? 🩵
There are many ways to strengthen your pelvic floor, and doing so can make a big difference to your comfort, confidence, and overall quality of life.
👉 If this sounds familiar, reach out to us to book an appointment. Your pelvic health matters.

❄️ Use Ice in the First 24–72 Hours ❄️

Ice works best early after back pain caused by:
🏋️ Pulling a muscle during exercise
📦 Lifting something heavy
🔄 Twisting the wrong way
🤕 Falling or getting jolted

🧊 Why ice helps:
Inflammation is your body’s natural response to injury—but too much can slow healing and keep pain around longer.

Ice helps by:
❄️ Reducing inflammation
🩸 Slowing blood flow
⚡ Numbing nerves to ease pain and swelling

🧊 How to use ice safely:
🧣 Wrap an ice pack or frozen gel in a thin towel
⏱️ Apply for 15–20 minutes
⏸️ Wait at least 1 hour before reapplying
🚫 Never place ice directly on skin
🔁 Use ice a few times per day during the early stages of pain. After 2–3 days, ice may stop helping and can increase stiffness.

🔥 That’s when heat becomes the better option to relax muscles and improve movement.

🔥 USE HEAT: After 3 Days or for Ongoing Tightness 🔥

Heat is best when:
📅 Pain is more than 3 days old
🪢 Your back feels tight, stiff, or sore
🔁 The injury is chronic or keeps coming back
🤸 You’re warming up before movement or stretching

🔥 Why heat helps:

Heat opens blood vessels, increases circulation, and relaxes tight muscles. It’s especially helpful for:
🧠 Stress-related tension
⚡ Muscle spasms
🚶 Improving movement with long-standing pain

🔥 How to apply heat safely:
🛏️ Use a heating pad, warm towel, or warm bath
🌡️ Keep heat mild—never hot enough to burn
⏱️ Limit sessions to 15–20 minutes
😴 Never use heat while sleeping

⚠️ Important:
Do not use heat too early after an injury. Even though it may feel good, heat can increase swelling and delay healing if applied to a fresh injury.

⚠️ COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID

❌ Too much of either
More is not better. Over-icing can cause nerve damage or frostbite. Over-heating can burn skin or increase inflammation.

❌ Using heat too soon
It may feel soothing, but heat early in an injury can make things worse.

❌ Falling asleep with a heating pad
One of the most common causes of burns from home treatment. Always unplug or set a timer.

❌ Ignoring body signals
If pain increases after icing or heating, stop. Pain is a signal — not a test of willpower.

Why Desk Stretching Is a Must 💻🧘‍♀️
Many of us spend long hours sitting at our desks, whether working from home or in the office. Prolonged sitting can lead to back pain, neck stiffness, poor posture, and other health issues. It can also leave us feeling tired, stiff, and less productive throughout the day.
Here’s why regular stretching during the workday is so important:
✨ Reduces Muscle Tension
Sitting for long periods can cause tight, stiff muscles. Stretching helps release built-up tension and prevent aches and pains.
✨ Improves Posture
Slouching or hunching over your desk can lead to neck and back pain. Stretching helps reset your posture and support proper alignment.
✨ Boosts Circulation
Stretching increases blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your muscles—helping reduce fatigue and improve energy levels.
✨ Enhances Flexibility
Consistent stretching keeps muscles flexible and joints mobile, lowering the risk of injury and making everyday movements easier.
✨ Increases Energy & Focus
Taking a few minutes to stretch can refresh your body and mind, helping you feel more alert, focused, and productive.
Still feeling tight or uncomfortable at your desk?
Physiotherapy can help identify the root cause of your tension, improve posture, release tight muscles, and create a personalised plan to keep you moving pain-free—even with a desk job.
👉 Your body works hard for you—give it the care it deserves.

📱 Text Neck: The Pain You’re Scrolling Into

“Text neck” describes the strain placed on your neck and upper back from prolonged poor posture while using phones, tablets, and other devices.

Over time, this repetitive stress can lead to:
⚠️ Neck and upper back pain
⚠️ Shoulder tension
⚠️ Stiffness and reduced mobility
⚠️ Headaches

📉 What’s really happening?
Repeated forward head posture increases stress on the spine, contributing to postural imbalances such as:
➡️ Forward head carriage
➡️ Rounded shoulders
If left unaddressed, text neck can increase the risk of disc irritation, nerve compression, and chronic pain.
👀 Text neck often shows up as:
1️⃣ Forward head posture
2️⃣ Rounded, slouched shoulders
Tips to prevent Text Neck Syndrome:
✔️Hold your mobile device up to eye level.
✔️ Slight tuck your chin and roll shoulder blades backwards.
✔️ Take breaks from your mobile device every 15 minutes.
✔️ Set reminders to shift positions.
✔️ For kids, rest the device on a table instead of in the hands or on the floor.
