What an incredible first week it has been!
From De Rust to Oudtshoorn, via Dysselsdorp to Calitzdorp, and back again — the journey so far has been nothing short of inspiring. Along the way, Doc André and the team visited two schools in Oudtshoorn, where they were met with warmth and enthusiasm by the learners of Vaardigheidsschool and Langenhoven Gymnasium. Through coin-laying and generous donations, these young supporters played a meaningful role in helping us move closer to our goal.
Our six remarkable donkeys, proudly pulling the cart handcrafted by volunteers from De Rust, have truly been the heart of this journey. On Friday, 17 April, they underwent their halfway health check with Dr. Garth Ryder — and we’re happy to report they are all in excellent condition. At every overnight stop, they are well cared for and spoiled with fresh lucerne and Eragrostis tef, ensuring they remain strong and happy for the road ahead.
We are deeply grateful for the incredible support received along the way. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has welcomed, hosted, and encouraged the team:

Your generosity and kindness make this journey possible.
This weekend marked the beginning of the second leg of the adventure. Departing from the Klaarstroom hotel, the team set off towards Willowmore — a long but rewarding day that even saw them cross into the Eastern Cape. There, they were warmly welcomed by the wonderful hosts at El Yolo, who treated the team to a delicious lamb potjie and ensured everyone was well looked after after a demanding day on the road.
Every stop along the way reminds us why this journey matters. The donkeys draw smiles, spark conversations, and bring people together — especially children, who are naturally drawn to them. It’s beautiful to witness the connection and joy they create wherever they go.
And at the heart of it all is our message:
Donkeys must be seen — and never hurt.
To everyone following, supporting, and cheering us on — thank you. Your encouragement means the world. If you would like to support the work of Pediatric Care Africa, your contribution will help us continue making a meaningful difference in children’s healthcare across the Klein Karoo.
Onwards we go — inspired, grateful, and determined.
