North Bay Lodge is truly blessed with the many people that go through our corridors almost daily simply to serve & give. The people that bring light, a piece of their heart, their skill or their prayer. Pat & Tim Pandaram, talented musicians who bring joy with their music to many residents in facilities & retirement homes in and around Durban (couple in blue centre of the pic) are one of those. They often unhesitatingly volunteer to play at short notice at many of our events. Turning it into memorable celebrations ✨🎵. Tim & Pat, in Abbas words 'thank you for the the music, the songs I'm singing. Thanks for the joy they bringing......" 🎶🎵

Community collaboration is a wonderful thing! The burst of energy & eagerness of the scholars of was soo refreshing! They arrived with a sincere desire to make a difference, with little or no knowledge of mental illness & our long standing home in the neighborhood.

Armed with creative enthusiasm & paint brushes, they transformed their canvas (selected brick walls & pillars) into impressive murals! Our residents were excited to see their beloved pets Tigger & Jinger prominently showcased in art form in our entrance. Thank you Northwood school & management, we are truly grateful for your contribution & partnership 🙏🙏. We used this window of opportunity to educate these wonderful young men on mental health issues. Northwood School you remain a" friend" of North Bay Lodge - we hope you will visit again soon

I promise, though it looks like North Bay Lodge resident's life is a constant party,🎉 they do have normal, still days just doing mundane stuff. With an average of 3 birthday celebrations a month -plus there's 1 every week in those 4 months 👏. Come to think of it, that's a lot of cake & dancing Mmmm 🤔. Being a few days apart, Lynette & Bobby had a joint celebration with all the trims & whistles.
Pharozia's sister Sharon ensured she celebrated hers too - she felt the great absence of her recently departed sister Rashida. We know she was smiling on her from the heavens

I suppose it makes sense now why I'm big on the activity - ' a cake a day won't keep Jake awake'😃

There's always something one can do to lend a hand! We were humbled to assist the call for help when a nearby Briardene settlement was gutted by fire. Being a non profit organisation with nil funding from govt, it's not easy giving out help . Our team & residents banded together to pack stuff we could share and help the North Durban Lions in the great work they do to help communities in need. These type of intiatives helps move our residents focus outward & stirs gratitude within them in a simple, understandable manner .

North Bay Lodge are fortunate to have a number of great contractors who provide services to our facility on a weekly basis. Their skill & experience was specifically chosen to enhance our residents lives. Either in bringing out creative skills they innately possess or to develop a new one when a resident displays a flair for it . Our contractor Khoshika Doolabh has helped our residents create magical pieces of art which our residents proudly displayed at our recent AGM. Her skill & patience certainly brought out the Picasso's in them. Well some residents say the Van Gogh... " Paint your palette blue & grey... " 😍

It's not tongue in cheek, but really food is an important highlight in our residents lives😊. The menu is dietician based but also ticks the boxes for variety, deliciousness & restaurant standard. Everyday they churn out delectable eats, reinventing the pasta, pastry & casserole to take many forms and taste for a demanding group.

Noni ( Manager), Sbu, Nozi & Fana of eThekwini Caterers, you guys are just the best. Thank You - you did it again! Our Grantors were super impressed with the great array of snacks, presentation & quality par excellence , that we served for our gathering this weekend .

Definitely one of our blessings is our partnership with the St Martin's church group! Under the leadership of Sharon Libetrau & Helen Evans, these angels from St Martin's church:- Durban North continue to serve our residents on a weekly basis for many years now. Their sincere love & care for our residents shine through in all their weekly teachings, craft creations & fellowship. They not only dip deep in their spiritual reserves with patience & understanding, they also often dig into their own pockets to make some request of our residents a reality. It was indeed a wonderful time showcasing some of the knitted creations and bead work . Family and guests expressed joy & surprise when viewing the functional crafts ( scarves, teddy bears, earrings, bracelets etc) on display. This is more than just fellowshiping & teaching our residents crafts, it's a tangible mark of giving residents purpose & a sense of achievement, elevating their self esteem and worthiness .

When they not teaching crafts, they give up their Saturdays to bring fun and laughter to our residents. Their presence is a ray of sunshine in our home 🌞
Thank You precious volunteers🙏 We cannot express our gratitude enough .

Our residents always look forward to our baking afternoons with such glee. Their competiveness to be the best cake decorator sometimes detracts them from enjoying what they actually achieve - lovely cookies & cupcakes turned out by novices! We marvel at that spirit to achieve and to excel ! Needless to say, winning a prize or not for the best looking cupcake is quickly forgotten when it's tea time and they get to indulge their own tea treats. Such joy in this process ... from both the residents and staff who manage the full bake 💗
