Our nation is bleeding from some of the highest levels of gender-based violence (GBV) in the world.

Incidences of r**e, abuse, and femicide are so prevalent that a state of "national disaster" has recently been declared.

Alongside other contributors, the role that digital p*rnography plays in this crisis cannot be ignored.

P*rnography use in our country is many times the global average. Every day, millions of South Africans are being conditioned by porn*graphic material that normalises aggression and makes violence against women seem acceptable.

Input = output. For our culture to be transformed, the type of content that is being consumed online, on mass, needs to change.

GBV solutions must include measures to address problematic po*******hy use and the destructive social scripts that the po*******hy industry writes.

CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX & MEAL APPEAL 🎁✨

Help us make sure every person in our care feels seen, valued, and loved this Christmas.

As we head into the festive season , we’re reminded again how tough this time of year can be for those on the street — but even more so for our recovering clients. Many have begun the journey of reconciliation and long to go home… but they also know that going back too soon could undo in a heartbeat the precious ground they’ve gained. Temptation and old environments become so much harder during this season.

This year we want LIGHTHOUSE to be a place where our brothers and sisters feel family, belonging, and love.

To do this, we are planning:

🎄 Decorations for the Centre
🎁 Uniform Giftboxes for all Safe Space Users
🍽️ A Special Christmas Day Meal
🎉 A New Year’s Eve Celebration

Your support and contribution towards any of these will help us make this season meaningful and memorable.

🎁 GIFTBOXES x 75 (Uniform & Consistent)

To ensure fairness, each box needs to contain the same items (extras welcome only if we can add them to all 75 boxes):

• Notepad
• Highlighter
• Pen
• Socks
• Drawstring bag
• Toothpaste & toothbrush
• Bar of soap
• Small roll-on deodorant
• Face cloth
• Vaseline (100ml)
• Chocolate
• Pack of biscuits
• 2 × cappuccino sachets

Here are 3⃣ ways you can help 👇

1️⃣ Purchase the items and pack a box (or boxes) yourself
2️⃣ Sponsor a full box for R250, and we will buy and pack it
3️⃣ Give any contribution towards the project

👉 If you'd like to help in any of these ways, please contact me..

🍽️ SPECIAL DAY CELEBRATIONS — HOW YOU CAN HELP
✅ Sponsor food or drinks
✅Help prepare meals
✅Assist with table décor
✅Join us on the day
✅Host fun, uplifting activities

👉 If you’d like to be part of these celebrations, please contact me.

We are excited to help our precious brothers and sisters experience family and joy*
, and not stand alone during this season. ❤️✨

Thank you for your continued support!

This is a national emergency. 🚨

We are turning our feed purple to stand against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in South Africa. The numbers are devastating, but our collective voice has power.

We support Women For Change in declaring GBVF a national disaster. It is time to and mobilise real resources to protect the women and children of our nation.

It’s been another busy and beautiful three days at the Project Exodus office.

We had the privilege of reconnecting with Christy Herselman, from The Chat, as we continued to explore intervention strategies and discuss resource collaboration to help adolescents battling with compulsive po*******hy use.

This was followed by a discussion with Estelle van Eeden and Gerhardus van den Bergh, representing Sparrow Trust as well as the Amanzimtoti CPF Social Crime Forum and Youth Crime Prevention Desk. The focus of this meeting was to strategise around how best to help with addiction recovery in adolescents and also to take a deeper look at the link between po*******hy and social crime.

Today, Project Exodus staff were invited to take a tour of the Lulama Treatment Centre (SANCA) in Musgrave, Durban. The team was overwhelmed by the cleanliness and efficiency of the centre, as well as the friendliness and dedication of its staff. Lulama not only runs in-patient and out-patient services in Musgrave, but is also actively involved in a number of local community-based sites offering awareness, prevention, and recovery services under the Department of Social Development.

It was so encouraging to meet with Fathima Hussain, director of SANCA Durban, and Rhudika Naidoo, manager of ther**eutic services, today. We love their heart for those needing recovery, for those impacted directly or indirectly by substance use disorders, including adolescents, family members and under-resourced communities.

The Project Exodus team was honoured to take part in the Wellness Days hosted by Unilever on the 6th and 11th of November. Both days were nothing short of amazing - filled with laughter, curiosity, and real talk. Every conversation we had was insightful and deeply meaningful. It was incredible to see how open-minded the staff members were, and witnessing their vulnerability was both humbling and heartwarming.

What a privilege to host Anthea, Telishia, Nelisiwe, and Joshua from Focus on the Family at our offices in Durban North. We had precious few hours strategising as to how we can make a difference in shifting the culture in schools through the use of group work. Plans are being made for Focus on the Family to start rolling out groups for adolescents needing recovery in 2026.
