Get to know Dr. Sankeshan Padayachee — Specialist in Periodontology and Oral Medicine | University of the Western Cape Associate Professor.

Dr. Sankeshan Padayachee is a Specialist Periodontist and Oral Medicine expert with degrees from Wits and the University of the Western Cape, plus a postgraduate diploma in Health Science Education. He is a senior lecturer and consultant at UWC, former Head of Clinical Unit at Wits, and runs a private practice in Durban North.

With experience across rural and urban settings, Dr. Padayachee is known for his patient-centered care and commitment to education—actively training future specialists through UWC’s postgraduate programmes. He is a past president of SASPIO, serves on executive boards including ITI and SADA, and is a certified Swiss Dental Academy trainer.

Our Story

The Durban North Smile Centre was born out of the vision of Dr Sikki (Surandar) Singh (Orthodontist) whose intention it is was, to create a Specialist Centre where patients with facial deformities such as Cleft / Lip Palate and other anomalies could receive the necessary treatment they needed under one roof. Patients with Craniofacial Conditions and Anomalies require on going treatment by a team of Health Care Specialists in various fields, over a sustained period. This not only requires commitment from the Health Care Specialists, but also the commitment from the patient and their families. Having several of the main treatments available under one roof makes it easier to ensure that patients remain committed and received the help they needed in a very nurturing environment.
