Service-Based Cremation Funeral Policy

A Service-Based Cremation Funeral Policy is an insurance policy that covers a predefined set of cremation-related funeral services and products, rather than providing a lump sum payment to beneficiaries.

Upon the policyholder’s passing, the policy ensures that cremation arrangements are handled directly by a designated funeral service provider, reducing the financial and logistical burden on loved ones.

At Fowels Cremation & Burial Services INC, we understand that planning for the future can be challenging. Which is why we offer two service-based cremation policy options to suit your needs.

Option 1: Capped Service Fee

With this option, our policy covers our private non-attended cremation service current fee of the day up to a limited amount. This means that if the service fee exceeds the limit, your family will only pay the difference, plus any extras that may apply. By capping the service fee, we're able to offer lower premiums, making it more accessible to those who want to plan for the future without breaking the bank.

Option 2: Uncapped Service Fee

Alternatively, you can choose to insure your private non-attended cremation with an uncapped service fee. This means that our policy will cover whatever the service fee of the day is, including after-hour removal fees, but excluding all other extras that may apply. However, do note that the premiums for this option are slightly higher.

Both options provide financial protection and peace of mind, albeit with varying levels of coverage and associated costs.
Our goal is to empower you to make informed decisions regarding your future, and we are committed to providing guidance and support throughout the process.

As part of our continued commitment to delivering compassionate and efficient care, we are relocating our administration office to our mortuary facility at 68 Gale Street, Umbilo, KwaZulu-Natal, effective September 1, 2025.

This strategic move reflects our dedication to better serving our growing community of over 300 policyholders—as well as the many other families who rely on us during life’s most difficult times.

By bringing our administrative and mortuary services under one roof, we aim to provide a more seamless, centralized experience that enhances both the quality and convenience of our services.

In line with this transition, we’re proud to introduce a new range of affordable, in-house services, now available to all families—regardless of their chosen funeral service provider.

These offerings, which are often outsourced, are now handled by our own dedicated team at cost-effective rates, including:

*Photo printing (A3 & A4 formats)
*Standard and personalized laser-cut name plaques for urns
