In South Africa's ever changing environment, remaining stress-free is difficult, to say the least. Therapeutic massage provides patients with a calm, tranquil environment to collect their thoughts and relax. Neurotransmitters are key in a patients ability to reduce anxiety; massage therapy stimulates these transmitters while reducing the hormones that increase stress and anxiety.
By changing the psychological state of a patient to promote relaxation, researchers have also found that within the first ten to fifteen minutes of a therapeutic massage, the heart rate and oxygen consumption of the patients slowed, and the blood pressure was significantly reduced as a result. Aside from the psychological benefits of massage therapy, the physiological benefits also play a role in preparing a patient to handle their busy schedule or enjoy a day off.
