The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) recently hosted a review session for the Adolescent and Young People (AYP) In-School Programme. The session was attended by AFSA, provincial and district representatives from the Department of Education (DOE) KZN, as well as implementing partners including Mawela, MIET (Zululand), EDI, Isibani, LYD, and Phumelela (King Cetshwayo). The meeting provided a platform to reflect on the implementation journey and review the overall impact of the programme.

A key highlight of the discussions was the significant role psychosocial support and tutoring played in strengthening the programme. Learners benefited from accessible psychosocial services that created safe spaces for expression, resilience-building, and improved well-being. In addition, the support of tutors ensured that learners received academic guidance and mentorship, enabling them to stay engaged, motivated, and better prepared to reach their educational goals.
