The Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Programme trainees from the Leadership Development Training hosted a Disability & Gender-Based Violence Awareness Event under the theme “Ability Over Disability”. As part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. The event was held at the KwaDindabakubo Community Hall in Molweni.

The team partnered with various stakeholders who highlighted the alarming rise in cases of abuse against persons living with disabilities, and the ongoing struggle many faces in accessing justice. Presenters emphasised the need to strengthen protection systems, break the silence around abuse, and encourage persons with disabilities to speak out, seek justice, and exercise their rights against any form of violation.

Together, we continue the fight to ensure that every person regardless of ability lives free from violence, fear, and discrimination.

UNiTE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls.

As we stand together in the fight against violence, we recommit ourselves to creating a society where women and children are safe, valued, and free from harm

In 2025, under the theme UNiTE! “Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls”, we are reminded that ending violence requires not only our voices, but also our collective investment in prevention, protection, and healing.

During the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, let us embrace the spirit of “Letsema “coming together as communities, men and women, boys and girls to take collective action against gender-based violence.

Let us raise our voices, strengthen our solidarity, and take meaningful steps to prevent violence, support survivors, and challenge the norms that enable harm.

Together, we can build safer, stronger, and more compassionate communities where dignity is upheld, every life is protected, and all women and children can thrive.

Gender-based violence remains one of South Africa’s most urgent crises.

AFSA stands in deep solidarity with survivors, families and communities affected by the ongoing Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) crisis in our country. South Africa continues to face unacceptably high levels of violence against women, children, LGBTIQ+ persons and other vulnerable populations, violence that erodes dignity, destroys families, and undermines the social fabric of our communities.

GBVF is not just as women’s issue, it’s a national emergency that requires collective action.
Together, we can break the cycle. 💜✊🏾

This award is a reminder that the work we've been doing and the women we serve matter. The approach we've refined is rooted in trust, shaped by those who know this terrain best, and is worth backing.
We cannot wait to move forward with more resources and renewed focus on the communities who've trusted us from the start.
