In light of World Obesity Day✨🌟
I recently visited a weekend pool and recreation area, with slides, music, and families all around - and couldn't believe what I saw. Many adults and children were struggling with overweight and Obesity. I started noticing the numbers around me... And it hit me: 4 in 5 children, and similar with adults, were overweight or obese.
These observations aren't just anecdotal - the numbers confirm it:
🌍 Almost 50% of South African adults are overweight or obese, with women affected more than men.
📊 Overweight and Obesity in children aged 5-19 has risen from 9% in 2000 to 21% in 2022.
📈 Among children under 5, overweight and Obesity increased from 13% in 2016 to 23% in 2024.
This is a real concern we need to talk about. If you're not making changes for yourself, please consider doing it for your child. Healthy habits start at home, and even small consistent changes can make a huge difference in the long run.
