STRESS FRCTURE OF THE PELVIS.

Pelvic stress fracture can also be confused with an adducter tear. First discomfort in the groin, but in contrast to a muscle tear, if the athlete continues to run the discomfort becones so severe, running is impossable. A diagonistic is the Standing Test. A pelvic stress fracture experience pain in the groin when asked to put all their weight on the injured leg.Noticable when putting on under clothes.

Cause: This injury involves abnormal shearing stresses across the pelvis.

Treatment: as with all stress fractures the only treatment is rest. Usually it takes 8 to 12 w weeks to heal.The injury must be treated with great care.

Training after injury.

Injury will allways require an adaption of one's training programme, atleast in the short term while rehabilitation is under way. This addiption could be as radicle as total rest in the time of stress fractures, but will more often take the form of 'modified rest' tailored to the grade of injury.

In general. as long as the injury remains in the first injury grade, (pain coming on only after exercise), it probably advisable to reduce all speed running. particularly hills, racing, long runs and weekly training distance. When the injury reaches grade 3 (pain coming on during exercise and imparing performance), only short distance jogging, cycling and "running' in water with a flotation device are advised

Stretching of the calf musclesreduce the risk ovAchellies tear. Forarms, flat on wall, toes and feet together pointing stright forward. slowly press hips forward keeping knees straight. Hold when you feel "pull" in calves.
