Fathima Timol, Audiologists & Speech Therapists Speech Therapy and Audiology Services Both speech therapy and audiology services now available in the Morningside area.

Speech therapy is available for patients of all ages (infants through to the elderly) to address speech, language, cognitive or swallowing difficulties:
•Articulation and Phonological Disorders are errors in a person’s speech sounds, eg a child may say “w” for “r” (wabbit instead of rabbit).
•Language Delays in the ability to expressive themselves and/or receptive abilities with regard to underst

anding language relative to other children of the same age, impacting on progress in school.
•Fluency/Stuttering Disorders is the repetition, block or prolongation of words or part words.
•Cognitive/Language Deficits which involves a a person’s language or cognitive skills which can be impaired. Such skills can include: short-term memory, long-term memory, problem solving, reasoning, ability to answer questions appropriately and aphasia (a loss of the ability to produce and/or comprehend).
•Dysarthria which is difficulty in articulating words, caused by impairment of the muscles used in speech caused by neurological damage.
•Voice which includes any disorders of loudness, quality, voice breaks, etc.). Are you having difficulties with your hearing that:
•You hear people speaking but you have difficulty understanding what they are saying
•You are frequently having to ask for repetitions
•You complain that others are mumbling
• You need to ask colleagues about the details of a meeting or presentation you attended
•Friends and family need you to turn the TV or Radio down
•You do not hear the doorbell/telephone
•You have a history of exposure to loud noise e.g. working in the construction industry

MEET THE TEAM : Zahra Tar – Mahomed, Speech & Language Therapist

Zahraa graduated with a Bachelor of Speech Therapy (2021) from the University of the Witwatersrand. She went on to complete her community service at Greys Hospital in 2022.

Since then, Zahra has been working in private practice working at several hospitals in the Johannesburg area. Zahraa then joined Fathima Timol, Audiologists and Speech Therapists in 2023 bringing with her experience in different working environments, excellent communication skills and a strong theoretical background.

Zahraa has a special interest in adult neurological rehabilitation specifically progressive neurological conditions. She also enjoys working with children focusing on neonatal feeding therapy and early language intervention therapy.
