We offer complete care services from independent living right through to frail care. Our home has a long & proud history of service to the older gentlewomen. We were borne out of the Durban Benevolent Society (established in 1855) and boast over 160 years of loving care & service to Durban’s golden ladies. Our structure as a service-based organisation has evolved over the years to keep in line wit
h legislation. Starting out as a voluntary association, we have, since 1950, been a non-profit company, “formed for the purpose of providing a Home for Indigent Gentlewomen”. From that point onwards, the management of the home was taken over by a board of directors. We offer across the spectrum full board accommodation for senior ladies, from independent & assisted living through to frail & palliative care. Our objective is to provide the best type of care for each person’s needs. We see caring as a holistic function, which is why we focus a lot of our resources on social & entertainment activities. Our lovely ladies participate in exercise classes, arts, crafts, games, movie nights, bingo, concerts and talks among our numerous activities. We also have Church Services on a Sunday, and Holy Communion twice weekly given by the Anglican and Methodist churches
Our home offers three categories of care. These include:
1. Independent Living: for those who do not require assistance with the typical activities of daily living.
2. Assisted Living: for those who require some assistance
3. Frail Care: for those who require 24-hour nursing care
We also have an in-house sickbay – a facility that offers short-term/step-down care for residents who have taken ill or who require post-operative care. The step-down facility is also available to community members who require temporary care & assistance when recovering from illness or medical treatment & surgery. We invite you to be part of our home. Whether you can volunteer your time or share your resources, you too can play a part in caring for those who have spent the best part of their lives caring for others…
