May Goddess Lakshmi bless you with abundance, and may the spirit of Diwali fill your days with hope, harmony, and togetherness. 🌸

Did you know the famous “5 Stages of Grief” is not scientifically proven?

While many people know the model (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance), the reality is that grief doesn’t follow a neat checklist. Everyone’s journey is deeply personal and there’s no single formula for healing. 💔

Here’s why the “5 stages” don’t apply to everyone:

📈Grief isn’t linear – feelings can come and go in waves, not in order.
💛 Not everyone feels all 5 emotions – some may feel just one, or none.
🇿🇦 Culture and faith play a big role – shaping how loss is experienced and expressed.
⏰ Timing is different for each person – there’s no clock on grief.
👪 Support systems matter – family, community, and guidance can ease the journey in ways no model can explain.

We understand that grief is not “one size fits all.” We are here to walk alongside you, offering care that respects your individual experience, your heritage, and your healing journey. 🌿

The final viewing is a sacred, intimate moment, a last chance to find peace.

🕊 At Newlands City Funerals, our preparation of a loved one is guided by a standing commitment to protect two things: the dignity of the deceased and the memory of the family 💛

For this reason, our professional staff manages all aspects of bathing and dressing. Families are welcome to observe our process, but we perform the physical tasks ourselves for two essential reasons:

1️⃣ Preserving Unbroken Dignity
A person’s dignity and respect do not end with their passing. We ensure that family members and friends never see the deceased in a frail or undignified state. Our careful preparation is the final act of protection, ensuring that the last image you hold is one of peace and reverence.

2️⃣ Protecting Your Emotional Landscape
Upon death, the deceased is stored in a cool, controlled environment. The reality is that the body becomes intensely cold and rigid. We know that touching a loved one in this physical state can be profoundly haunting and emotionally scarring. Our team willingly carries this burden, taking on the cold logistics, so that you are shielded and your final moments with your loved one are reserved for simple, untainted love.

🪔 Our highest honour is managing the practical pain, so your family can focus entirely on the memory of the light they brought into your life.

ℹ Facing the loss of a loved one is incredibly difficult, and understanding the necessary legal steps can feel overwhelming. At NCFS, we believe in empowering families with clear, concise information.📝

Here’s a brief guide to the key legal requirements for arranging a funeral in South Africa:

1️⃣ Notification of Death (DHA-1663): This is the foundational document. It must be completed by a medical practitioner (if the death was from natural causes) or a SAPS official (in the case of unnatural death) within 24 hours of death.

2️⃣ Death Certificate: Once the DHA-1663 is registered with the Department of Home Affairs, an abridged death certificate is issued. This is a crucial document for legal and administrative purposes (e.g., closing bank accounts, insurance claims).

3️⃣ Burial/Cremation Order (DHA-58): Before a body can be buried or cremated, a DHA-58 form must be issued by the Department of Home Affairs, granting permission for the disposal of remains. This is usually obtained once the death has been registered.

4️⃣ Permit for Transportation: If the deceased needs to be transported across provincial borders or internationally, a special permit from the Department of Health is required.

5️⃣ Cremation-Specific Requirements: If cremation is chosen, additional legal steps apply, including two medical practitioners independently confirming the cause of death (if the death was from natural causes) and the completion of specific cremation forms.

Navigating these requirements can be complex, but you don't have to do it alone. Our compassionate team at NCFS is here to guide you through every step, ensuring all legalities are handled with professionalism and care.
