The JMH Durdoc Hospital's Maternity and Mom and Baby Clinic teams recently came together to shine a light on autism awareness. The event emphasized acceptance, understanding and support, reminding us that celebrating differences and promoting inclusion empowers individuals with autism and enriches our community.

The team were joined by two children who spoke about the importance of classmates offering understanding and assistance to children with autism.

Keynote Speaker, specialist paediatrician Dr. S. Cassim spoke on understanding autism, explaining differences in social communication, sensory processing, and repetitive behaviours. Interactive activities helped the audience connect with the topic more deeply.

Mr. Riyaaz Khan from Tibb emphasized autism as a spectrum, with experiences ranging from requiring significant support to living independently, and shared insights on neurodevelopment.

Maternity Workshop at JMH Isipingo Hospital.

We had an incredible day of learning, sharing, and supporting expectant moms at our recent maternity workshop held on 27 March 2026.

Highlights of the day:

Dr. N. Mdlalose delivered an insightful health education talk on antenatal care and the signs and dangers in pregnancy.

Our laboratory partners UPL provided vital information on essential blood tests.

Sr. Christine Pearce shared valuable knowledge on breastfeeding, covering both advantages and challenges.

Sr. Nalini Pillay emphasized the importance of the newborn hearing test.

Sr. Kasturi Naidoo introduced the maternity facilities at JMH Isipingo Hospital, including medical aid and cash packages, birth registrations and our special mum & baby bags.

A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers, partners, and attendees for making this workshop a success. Together, we’re building healthier beginnings for moms and babies!
