Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA)

Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA) A national organization with branches in various parts of the country.

As Muslim medical and health professionals we are committed to the values expressed by the Hippocratic Oath and believe that it is our responsibility to serve the community. The Islamic Medical Association is a non profit organization that has been taking healthcare to the people for the last 30 years. The organization was established by a group of young doctors who realized that health care to the underprivileged was compromised and of inferior quality. The precursor of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMA), called Lajnatul Attiba (The Doctors’ Committee) was formed in July 1974, amid much opposition from medical and non medical Muslims and non Muslims. These were humble beginnings with meetings being held at the homes of the handful of members. The Lajnatul Attiba was transformed into the IMA in 1979 and the first IMA Durban Branch Meeting was held on Tuesday, 30 October 1979. The IMA has grown in leaps and bounds and has over the years developed into a large national body with a membership of around 1000 health care professionals and a further 5500 on the mailing list. The Islamic Medical Association is a national organization with branches all over South Africa. The IMA’s main branches operate in Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Klerksdorp and Ladysmith. . IMA South Africa is affiliated to the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA) which is the international body of IMA’s across the world.

✨ Ramadan 1447πŸŒ™
From YOUR Charity to THEIR Healing

This Ramadan, YOUR Zakaat and Lillah donated to IMASA is not just a number β€” it is a life changed, a burden lifted, a du'aa made in the depths of the night.

Hear from those whose lives you are touching:

πŸ’š Zaiba Naidoo
"After reverting to Islam in 2022, I faced challenges not only with my health but with my family support. With hypertension, spinal issues and other comorbidities, I required 24-hour care. The IMASA Care Centre provided me with the care and rehabilitation I needed. I'm grateful for IMASA's Zakaat fund which covers 75% of my expenses. Alhumdullilah."

πŸ’š Shaida Ismail
"I was fortunate to be admitted into the IMASA Care Centre in 2023 β€” the care and support has been life-changing. Living with rheumatoid arthritis for over 20 years, I am finally receiving the medical care and therapy I need. The IMASA Zakaat fund covers 90% of my expenses. Alhumdullilah."

πŸ’š Isiya Cassim
"When I fell ill with colon cancer, I was far from home and in need of urgent medical care. The IMASA Care Centre is offering me that during a very difficult time. The IMASA Zakaat fund has been a lifeline, covering 50% of my expenses. Alhumdullilah."

Behind every percentage is a person. Behind every person is a story. And behind every story is a generous soul like YOU who chose to give.

May Allah accept your Zakaat and Lillah, multiply your rewards, and grant you and your loved ones a blessed Ramadan. 🀲

SUPPORT IMASA PROJECTS THIS RAMADAN - RENAL DIALYSIS PROJECT

"From YOUR Charity to THEIR Healing"πŸ’–

Imagine waking up three times a week, not for Fajr alone β€” but to sit for hours connected to a machine, just to survive another day.

For a renal dialysis patient, this is not a choice. It is their lifeline.

Without dialysis, toxins build up in the blood. The body begins to fail. Every missed session brings them closer to the end.

But your charity changes that.

A single donation can cover the cost of a dialysis session β€” giving a mother more time with her children, a father the strength to make it to another Jumu'ah, a grandparent the chance to see one more Eid.

This Ramadan, when the rewards of every good deed are multiplied, let yours be the reason someone breathes easier tomorrow. 🀍

On behalf of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA), the NEC, Council and Executive members extend our heartfelt wishes to all our Muslim brothers and sisters for a truly blessed Ramadan. May you experience this sacred month surrounded by your loved ones, in peace, mercy and abundant barakah. πŸŒ™βœ¨

May Allah accept your ibaadah, fasting and heartfelt duas, and fill your homes with joy, light and countless blessings. Aameen.

As we embrace the spirit of giving, we humbly remind you to remember our recipients when distributing your Zakaat and Lillah during this blessed month. Your generosity can save lives and bring healing to those in need.

β€œFrom YOUR charity to THEIR healing.”

Let us also strive to practice healthy living β€” physically, spiritually and emotionally β€” as we renew our intentions and strengthen our connection with Allah.

Please remember us in your duas.

IMASA Durban Clinics Host Mothers and Daughters Workshop On Children Born Without a Known Future

On 14 February, the IMA Clinics hosted a meaningful and impactful Mothers and Daughters Workshop themed β€œChildren Born Without a Known Future.” The programme aimed to address the growing crisis of teenage pregnancy and its far-reaching consequences within our communities.

Recent Stats SA figures (Jan 2024 – Feb 2025) show alarming numbers in KZN:
β€’ 438 births among girls aged 10–14
β€’ 24,532 births among girls aged 15–19
β€’ 1 in 24 girls aged 15–19 gave birth in 2024

Disturbed by these rising numbers, Sister Honey Allee and Sister Farida organised this workshop to educate and empower mothers and daughters, encouraging open conversations and informed choices.

The workshop featured a panel of distinguished speakers:

- Dr Ganiat Abisola, General Practitioner-– Understanding Reproductive Health

- Fatima Abdullah, Manager of Social Services at IMA Baytul Nur- Social Impact of Adolescent Pregnancy

- Nelisiwe Mthimkde, Secretary of the SAMRC Children’s Sector- Pregnancy & Family Dynamics

- Community activist Nokuthula Gumede- Trauma of Teenage Pregnancy

- Sister Farida Morris, IMA Clinics-The Impact on Children of Teen Mothers

The programme wrapped up with a powerful message from the mothers, cautioning the teenagers that while guys might know how to charm, responsibility isn't always part of the package. Their
parting words: "Books Before Boys, Because Boys Bring Babies". Sister Honey Allee shared that the teenagers were grateful for the eye-opening information and were encouraged to hug their mothers. This was the highlight of the programme.
