👶🏻babies born via Caesarean section have a different/altered gut microbiome compared to babies born via Vaginal delivery
👶🏻this can impact their health and immunity later on in life leading to
increased risk of infections, asthma ,allergies in childhood and obesity and type 2 diabetes in adulthood.

👩🏻‍⚕️you can bridge the gap of altered gut microbiota in Caesarean section babies by:
1. Breastfeeding immediately🤱
2. Skin to skin contact 🤱
3. Rooming In with your baby🤱
4. Use of prebiotics/probiotics=synbiotics 🍌🧄🥛+🦠
5.if breastfeeding is not possible use a formula feed that mimics breastmilk eg HMO- human milk oligosaccharides and prebiotics- FOS +GOS 👩🏽‍🍼

😷RSV Protection for Newborns –
What Parents Should Know 🇿🇦

😷RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is one of the most common causes of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in babies — especially during autumn and winter in South Africa.

💉A new prevention option, Beyfortus, is now registered in South Africa🇿🇦
✔️ It is a single injection
✔️ Given before or during RSV season
✔️ Provides protection for the entire season
✔️ Especially important for babies under 6 months

😷Babies at highest risk:
• Premature infants
• Babies with heart or lung conditions
• Immunocompromised infants

🤰🏽There is also a maternal RSV vaccine, Abrysvo, given during pregnancy to help protect newborns from birth.

Speak to your paediatrician early
— RSV prevention is far easier than RSV hospitalisation.
