Lens Sag Calculation for EyeSpace Scleral lenses with your Slitlamp:

Anterior chamber depth + 200microns

If you do not have a topographer, you can calculate the anterior chamber depth using Smith's Technique with a slitlamp.

“Conjunctival hooding and scleral lens wear.

This happens when loose/boggy conjunctival tissue gets pulled up into the fluid reservoir space under a scleral lens.

It is more common in patients with conjunctivochalasis and loose conjunctival tissue. Location is often inferior and superior because the cornea tends to be oval shaped, leaving more lens clearance at the vertical meridian.

Inferior conjunctival hooding is seen here, but patient is asymptomatic and eye health/vision has remained stable for 3 years. 20/25!

This finding is typically harmless because it is temporary with lens wear, but if chronic hooding contributes to corneal neovascularization, mid-day breaks may be considered or lens vault can be lowered to decrease space for tissue entry.”
