πΏRecent studies have found that strict rest after a sport concussion until all symptoms have completely resolved is not effective in the treatment thereof.
The 6th Concussion in sport consensus statement suggests the following when treating a sports related concussion:
β
Relative (not strict rest) β athletes may continue with normal activities of daily living at home
β
Reduced screen time in the first 2 days after the injury.
β
Athletes may return to light-intensity physical activity, like walking and stationary cycling, that do not worsen their symptoms from 24hrs-48hrs post-concussion.
β
Aerobic exercise which does not aggravate symptoms can be implemented within 2-14 days of a concussion.
o Studies have found that implementing aerobic exercise early in the rehabilitation program of concussion athletes facilitates recovery by a mean of almost 5 days.
β
Symptoms must not be more than mildly increased when taking part in any activity. This means that the athleteβs symptoms may not increase more than 2 points on a 10-point scale
