An Exotic and Avian Surgical clinic, focussing on giving excellent care for exotic patients. We aim to provide exceptional care to your unusual pet!

We offer pocedures such as spay/neuter, lump removal, fracture repair and dental care. We also offen avian wing trim, nail and beak files and rabbit vaccinations. At the Cape Exotic Animal Hospital we treat all sorts of birds, exotic pets and wildlife.

The answer is YES!

RHDV vaccines are now again available in South Africa. Unfortunately they are only being provided in 40 dose vials, which all have to be administered shortly after opening. So we will not be able to offer vaccines at ESS at the moment, but please contact Exotic Vet Century City or CARE to book your vaccination.

As most of our clients know we will be relocating next year! We are transforming Exotic Surgical Services into a more mobile practice, and will be offering consultations from across different areas in Cape Town from 2025.

Dr Bernice will be consulting from TAH Kenridge on Mondays from January 2025, and keep an eye out on our FB and Instagram page for other pop up locations (ie Southern Suburbs).

Kindly note ESS will be closed from 18 Dec until 13 January for the festive season.

Dr Bernice getting ready for surgery…

Our patients receive a health check before surgery and then a premedication. When they are sedated we shave and prep the area of surgery (in this rattie’s case it was both a spay AND a lump removal) and then proceed to take them to theatre. A sterile set of instruments are opened for each surgery, and our patients are kept on a heating mat and warmed room to reduce heat loss. Post-op they are monitored very closely until wide awake and then receive some yummy snacks to get the happy juices flowing again!
