Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV) "A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones."
As a Physician and in our health-crazed world today, much is made of diet and exercise but very little is made of having a merry heart. But Scripture relates length of life and health to honouring our parents (Exodus 20:12) and having a merry heart and reading, listening and meditating on the Bible (Proverbs 4:20-22). Nutrition and exercise play an important part to the total health package. However, honouring our parents and having a merry heart and hearing Scripture are MUCH MORE important. That is not to say that we do not need to eat right and exercise, but that is to say that spiritual factors are more important than physical factors in the quality and length of life. Read your Bible, pray and help your family and smile today.
